Six albums of approximately 400 autographs and signed photographs from stars of stage, screen, TV and popular music. Names from the last 50 years including film stars Gregory Peck, Richard Todd, Maggie Smith, Charlton Heston, Douglas Fairbank Jnr. Also soap stars, pop and jazz musicians and actors from many British TV sitcoms and dramas. Also souvenir photos of Wembley Exhibition 1925 (see news from the rostrum).This collection of autographs and signed photographs fully represent British popular culture of the last 50 years. Film stars, pop stars, jazz musicians, soap stars and stage actors. They are all here from Rex Harrison to Christopher Biggins, Ernie Wise to Stephen Fry. These albums represent many, many hours travelling the country and waiting to meet the celebrities of the day at theatres in the capital and provinces. Someone stood outside stage doors and at red carpet barriers waiting patiently for the famous personalities of the day to put pen to paper. Musicians from the sixties and 70s such as Alvin Stardust, Acker Bilk, George Melly, Eartha Kitt and Joe Brown. Actors Felicity Kendal, Paul Eddington, Maggie Smith, Diana Rigg (before they were Dames) and John Thaw. Comedians Les Dawson, Ernie Wise and Rik Mayall as well Stephen Fry.

Hurstbourne, an Arts and Crafts Hammersmith carpet by Morris & Co., circa 1880-1890, of sixty degree arc shape, with three armorials and mottos, on a ground of scroll acanthus and other leaves, buds and flowers against indigo, within a barber’s pole band, the border detached, the greatest length overall is approximately 15 metres and 12 centimeters (1512cm), the approximate radial width is 415cm See Parry, Linda. William Morris Textiles. 1994 edition, p. 90 for an illustration of the original design of this carpet. Made for Isaac Newton Wallop, 5th Earl of Portsmouth for his seat of Hurstbourne Park, Hants. The central and principle arms are for Newton WALLOP (1856-1917), later (from 1891) the 6th Earl of Portsmouth, the son of Isaac Newton FELLOWS later WALLOP (1825-1891) 5th Earl of Portsmouth by Lady Eveline Alicia Juliana HERBERT (died 1906) daughter of Henry Howard Molyneux HERBERT (1831-90) 4th Earl of Carnarvon. Newton WALLOP married in 1885 Beatrice Mary PEASE (1866-1935) daughter of Edward PEASE (1834-80) by Sarah STURGE (died 1877). Edward PEASE was the son of Joseph PEASE (1799-1872) of Southend, Darlington and Cliffe House, Marske-by-the-Sea Yorkshire by Emma GURNEY (1800-60) the youngest daughter and co-heir of Joseph GURNEY (1757-1830) MP and Quaker of Laneham Grove, Norwich. The two accompanying arms are the quartered arms of PEASE and GURNEY. Please note: This carpet will not be on view at Donnington Priory but can be viewed, by appointment, at our off site storage premises which are approximately 10 minutes drive from the saleroom.
