A good Baluchi carpet, Khorasan, north east Persia or Adraskand region, west Afghanistan, second d half 19th century, 9ft.2in. x 6ft.2in. 2.80m. x 1.88m. Overall wear, heavier in band across top end of field although this is due primarily to corrosion of mid brown; right side cut in slightly, a few tiny reweaves in places. As is frequently encountered on such carpets, this example has numerous abrash and a somewhat random use of colour, particularly a vivid 'electric' blue and a mid yellow; of the two or three batches of brown wool, one has corroded more markedly than the others. The attribution of this type of carpet to the Timuri remains unproven.
