A Tabriz carpet, approximately 642 x 448cm Provenance: Berwick House, ShropshireCondition Report: Wear to carpet overall Wear reveals underlying weft in areas throughout. Some areas of additional wear have resulted in some small holes. Some areas of loss to pile that appear to be from old moth damage. Fringing with wear, fraying, losses and loose threads at both ends. The fringing to one end has moved into the guard stripe/border. Longest edges appear to heave been re-bound and have some wear. Where the carpet has been folded in the past it has caused areas of extra wear and some losses to the binding of the longest edges. Both sides of the carpet with two old stitched cuts that appear to be from where the carpet was fitted around fireplaces. The cuts on one side are approx. 50cm long and the cuts on the other side are zigzag shaped and approx. 60cm long. Please refer to online images for visual reference to condition. Remnants of later fabric applied to help secure edge. The fringing at the other end with significant wear, fraying and losses that encroach into the guard stripe.
