An antique Shiraz carpet woven in colours with three linked lozenge shaped medallions, conforming spandrels and filler motifs on a madder ground within four stripe geometric border, 9ft 4ins x 6ft 5ins (some localised wear to field), and a similar ditto rug, 76ins x 64ins (localised wear to field)
Peter Collingwood (1922-2008), a hand-woven wool on linen pile rug `Scarlet runner`, 1964, double-corduroy weave in a mix of reds, bright pink and orange, originally for the New Zealand House carpet, 420cm x 68cm, with a catalogue of his retrospective exhibition. Provenance: Professor Ann Sutton, MBE, who, in 1964, swapped a piece of her own work with Collingwood for the present lot. It has never been used by Ann Sutton as a floor rug, so has no wear at all. It once covered a long seat, but hardly used and not in the sun. This runner was originally woven as one of ten which would be sewn together to make a carpet, commissioned for the Assistant High Commissioner`s office in New Zealand House, but was found to be 2" too short, so another strip had to be woven. This finished carpet was the largest he made in the double-corduroy technique. It featured in his retrospective exhibition in The Minories, Colchester. Visit www.dnfa.com for condition reports.
