A LARGE TURKEY CARPET approximately 624 x 407cm Condition Report: There are losses, observations and restorations to this carpet including: the edges and ends worn and in some places re-worked with the fringe worn entirely in places; there are cuts that have been re-stitched and these and other areas with tape and hessian to the reverse to strengthen the repairs; there is evidence of moth; there is variable sun fading; there are areas of later stitching and binding; the edges and ends are not straight. A LARGE MODERN RUG BY LUKE IRIWIN approximately 384cm wide x 278cm high Condition Report: Overall this carpet has stains, marks and ageing consistent with age and wear. Condition observations include: there are some marks and stains, almost camouflaged by the fact that the pile marks when, for example, a chair is drawn over it; the carpet is woven with abrash; some white marks possibly from paint or food; other dark stains; some small circular burns, probably from cigarette or fire sparks; it is difficult to discern whether there is any sun fading due to the abrash and the change of colour with the change of pile direction. A TUAREG REED CARPET NORTH WEST AFRICA, 20TH CENTURY A very large African straw mat, finely hand woven with leather in geometric patterns. approximately 370 x 266cm Provenance: Supplied by Christopher Gibbs Condition Report: The carpet is stained , marked and worn consistent with age and wear. Observations include: the ends are curled; the leather outer binding is cracked and missing in places; the fringe is worn away with some vestiges in places; the reed has some missing sections; some reed split, compressed or depressed presumably from where the feet of heavy furniture has stood; missing some sections of the leather thread to the decorative bands; the edges are not straight lines, some undulations. There are losses and observations including: the edges not straight with some undulations; the fringe extensively worn to both ends; the pile is variable in height with full length tufting ranging to threadbare areas; some ridges of wear; woven with an abrash; there is evidence of moth; some stains, marks and materials; there is a hole to one end of the carpet. The founder, Stanislav V'Soske, was known as 'the dean of American rug design' and worked with Messel on a number of projects. Condition Report: The carpet is stained, marked and worn consistent with age and use.Observations include: small circular dark marks, possibly burns from fire sparks?; stained, discoloured and marks, that are more visible to the pale field areas; some brown patches, possibly a dog ( there is a smell permeating from it) ?!; some variable fading including to some of the outer lilac border; some possible rust or wood stains where chairs or table legs have stood; the underside with cotton tape around the edge looking quite clean in some sections, extensively stained to others; visible wear with worn threads in particular to areas to the two narrower ends; variable wear to the pile; some undulations and creasing to the central area.Please see the additional photographs as a visual reference of condition.Condition Report Disclaimer
