Carpet by the Ersari Turkmen of Beshir, Turkmenistan, 19th century, 8ft. 8in. x 4ft. 6in. 2.44m. x 1.37m. Overall wear; slightly heavier in some places; fabric tape to each end verso. The field filled with a mosaic of all-over stepped triangular motifs; narrow rosette main border with an inner border on the left hand side of double ended 'comb' motifs which does not appear on the right hand side. cf. Jourdan, U. op. cit. p. 308, pl. 288 for a similar carpet with panelled design.THIS LOT IS AN ADDITION TO THE SALE AND DOES NOT APPEAR IN THE PRINTED CATALOGUE.
Fars carpet, Shiraz district, south west Persia, circa 1930s-50s, 10ft. 3in. X 7ft. 6in. 3.12m. X 2.29m. Dark red step-sided field with dark blue triple pole medallion and dark blue frame to the field. All over birds, animals and a variety of filler ornaments; ivory octagons in the spandrels; multiple borders. Pale blue and ivory details. Lustrous wool; good pile and relatively soft handle.
Two Ersari Turkmen carpet fragments from the lower part of a larger carpet, Turkmenistan, last quarter 19th century, each 4ft. 7in. X 3ft. 4in.1.40m. X 1.02m. Overall wear with corrosion to brown in places; small holes and small crude repairs. Tauk nuska guls with stylized animals and triangle motifs around a central medallion; divided by chemche motifs; ivory main border. Soft palette and soft handle. Cf. Jourdan, U. Tabriz carpet, signed, north west Persia, circa 1950s, 11ft. 9in. X 8ft. 9in. 3.58m. X 2.67m. Ivory field closely filled with all over scrolling floral design; ivory floral main border within light pink floral guards; the inner guard at the lower end with signature. Slight wear in places; light surface marks. Robust handle.

Dark blue field with two terracotta triple pole medallions; all over 'morghi' (pecking chicken) design; within multiple borders including a narrow border of variously coloured stars within octagons. Soft palette and soft handle.

Light red lozenge shape field with triple pole medallion in mid-blue and ivory; mid-blue spandrels and frame; all over floral design with various birds hiding among the ornaments; typical borders and chequered piled ends.

Light pinky-brown cartouche shape field with ivory centre medallion; dark blue spandrels, pinky-brown main border; all over flowers and foliage; inner ivory guard with inscription centre top end and date woven top right corner.

Overall wear with repairs in places with repaired and re-piled areas and crease marks to ends; tear to top right corner. Dark blue field with most attractive all over design of flowers and strapwork tendrils; vase motifs and cloudbands, wide deep gold main border of palmettes, flowers and strapwork; terracotta floral guards. Overall wear, slightly heavier in some places; corrosion to browns; small repairs and small areas of old moth damage. A very pretty carpet; the indigo and pale blue centre medallion with an inner circle of flowerheads with 'face mask' centres, on a pale camel cartouche shape field with four of the large blue flowerheads with 'face-mask' centres; ivory spandrels; indigo main border and pale blue guards within a pale red outer band woven with occasional beige 'marker' stripes. Lustrous close clipped velvety wool.
