1970 Mercedes 220 Saloon (W115) LHD California Import - Odometer reading 58,000 miles- Low owner example - California import with large maintenance history Succeeding the W110 Fintail, the W114 and W115 were designed by Paul Bracq (previously responsible for the Grosser 600) and models distinguished by different engine sizes and subsequently names. Now renowned for being a stylish 1970s cruiser which combined bullet-proof build quality with elegant design, the 220s are now being widely appreciated and thus fluctuating in price. ANM 817H is a California import, sporting an automatic 4-speed transmission and is finished in stunning Horizon blue paintwork which has a deep sheen to it as well as stunning blue leather interior. Furthermore, it still has its original stainless steel wheel trims that are complemented by four white wall tyres adding to the period look of the car - these have been recently changed only 200 miles ago according to the vendor. Overall, the vendor assures us that the headlining is in great shape but the sun visors could do with a refurb. They also mentioned that the air conditioning unit is currently uninstalled and requires a refurb / reinstallation but will come with the car upon sale. From what the vendor tells us there is plenty of background to the car's beginnings after being supplied new to a Doctor in Redding, California then on to a Mercedes collector in Burbank. This last US owner maintained the car regardless of expense with receipts of a full engine rebuild in 1998 at 47,000 miles at a cost of nearly $6,000. He also commissioned an exclusive burbank upholstery specialist to completely recover the interior seating in period / pattern correct leather. It originally came with m-tex vinyl which although unmarked he didn't think it did the car justice. A new complete carpet and headlining were also installed along with 'dynamat' soundproofing to the floors and roof, total cost exceeding $4,000 at the time. Around this period the car was professionally repainted in its original 'horizon blue' colour as the paintwork had faded from the California sun; again with another bill showing a cost of $5,000. Documents also show that the car has a $2,000 music system installed which was later taken out of the car - the owner reckons this accounts for the shot speaker which he notes will need to be replaced by the new owner. Maintenance on the car has continued since coming to the UK with a reconditioned radiator, rebuilt carburettor and new rear exhaust being just some of the list of work carried out (enquire for full breakdown). Lastly, the car comes with a large history file to back up its extensive care. Our private London-based vendor has kept the car in his propertys underground car park since ownership and only driven in dry conditions for pleasure. The combination of this and its Californian beginnings are a true testament to the vehicles condition.
