Some sections of one row of knots of black outer plain guard striple missing. Pile fair, some small areas of (mainly black) repiled. 090315

Donegal Carpet of Arts & Crafts Design, probably by Alexander Morton The tomato red field with an allover design of scrolling leaves and flowerheads enclosed by pale indigo borders of flowering vines flanked by olive green guard stripes, 412cm by 298cm (reduced) The web has been folded at both ends and several sections show losses/damages into the plain red guard stripe (to a depth of two rows of knots). Selvedges are original but folded in areas and minor damage has occurred. Pile generally fair. The red warp/weft just visible in a few tiny areas. Slightly more faded in areas. 070115
A good and large antique American Sarouk carpet early 20th century, originally retailed by Maple & Co. (stitched label verso), the red ground with central four pointed dark blue medallion centred by an oval floral rosette, pendants with tendrils issuing from either end, light blue floral and foliate spandrels, within a broad floral meander border and multiple narrow borders, 16ft. 1½in. x 11ft. 2½in. (491.5 x 342cm.).
