Lot 528A
ADDED LOT A large hand knotted Persian carpet, (probably early/mid 20th Century), the central lozenge against a predominantly red ground with blue spandrels within multi sized and coloured borders with stylised repeating patterns including "elephant's foot" patterns etc., (worn and wear commensurate with age), approx. 380cm x 304cm CONDITION REPORT: This is very worn in places and has obviously been used daily. It is quite threadbare in most areas throughout the carpet and evidence of wear is prevalent pretty much all over.
Lot 577
A magnificent dining table and ten-chair set; the large (310cm x 110cm) table plank-topped (fruitwood/walnut?) with angular cleated ends/sides and raised upon two bulbous squared baluster-form supports terminating in large scrolls and united by a central stretcher; together with a set of ten ash rush-seated ladder-back armchairs; most probably originally supplied by I & JL Brown, Kings Road, London, SW6; CONDITION REPORT: The chairs push flush against the table when not in use although the arms fit underneath the planked table top some of them are a tight fit. This may be due to the fact that presently the scrolling base is half standing on decorative carpet and the other half on normal flooring. We think that normally they would slide underneath the table.
Lot 528
A very fine matched pair of Persian silk mixture carpets with a very high density of knots per square, the slightly larger with a black border, the other carpet (signed to the top) with a light green border, each central rectangular panel decorated with a tree of life style design and with birds, a hare, a deer etc., together with a profusion of different coloured flowers etc., the slightly larger carpet approx. 214cm x 136cm CONDITION REPORT: These have come privately and were with them for many years, they have been hung on the wall. There are no real issues and appear to be in good original condition with no tears, repairs, stains or any other problems noted. They were purchased originally in Persia by the present vendors and only ever hung on the walls. These are in good and genuine original condition.
Lot 523
A large and fine exhibition Wilton carpet, the red, yellow, orange and burnt umber border surrounding mustard and beige coloured scrolling acanthus against a mid blue ground, approx. 590cm x 366cm, this particular design was originally used for carpets on the liner QE2 CONDITION REPORT: This is not hand knotted, the vendor advises that it is a Walton carpet and the material is wool. The vendor's wife used to work for the Walton Factory and this was a single design that was produced at the Factory and was later taken up for use in some of the rooms and areas on the QE2. In very good overall condition.
Lot 513
A small hand-knotted red ground Bokhara rug with six central gul patterns with rectangular borders, 94cm x 66cm CONDITION REPORT: The top of this appears fairly good, all of the tassels are there, the colours are good and there are no real tears, rips or major problems. The only problem we can see is that there is what looks like a grid effect on the back of the carpet which could be due to where the carpet was originally stuck down in the home that it was in. The grid effect does not look particularly nice on the back and we don't think that this can be removed without professional carpet cleaners.
