A canvas sold by Sotheby's, 3 Dec 1989, on canvas, 85 x 158 cm., lot 339 which Dominique Brême attributed to de Largillière at the beginning of his Parisian career circa 1680-1685 (but which Michel Faré attributed to Pierre Dupuis) was subsequently given to Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer by Didier Aaron. Similarly, a Still Life with Pears, Pomegranates and Watermelons on a frieze (Sotheby's, New York, 12 January 1989, lot 106) was for a long time thought to be by Pierre Dupuis; while Fruits et ruines d'architecture, which hung in the French Embassy near the Holy See, was incorrectly ascribed to Alexandre-François Desportes by the Louvre in 1933. A Persian carpet, the central panel set with lozenge shaped medallion on a blue ground with stylised floral decoration within a stepped orange, blue and cream foliate and scrollwork decorated border approx. 408 cm x 371 cm CONDITION REPORTS Is badly worn all over, signs of mould, threadbare, stained and discoloured in areas. Badly worn throughout, heavy wear and tear conducive with age and use - see images for more details.
Persian pattern carpet, central floral medallion on a pale ground, dark blue floral field, broad scrolling floral border, 383x304cm.Condition report:Worn quite thin to one half where the warp and weft are exposed. Also quite worn to the central medallion. Colours are consistent throughout. One corner has the edge seem pulling away in a 15cm length. No other evident tears or repairs.
