Decorative Chinese carpet with pretty pale blue field, probably Beijing, circa 1930s 15ft. x 12ft. 4.57m. 3.66m. Some surface marks; slight wear with white warps evident in places. Barin Carpets Restoration and Cleaning Company fabric tape each end verso. By family repute removed from an Embassy cinema foyer in the 1930s thus by descent to the present owner. Originally part of a large consignment of Chinese carpets and rugs purchased from Bodigian, Ridley & Co. Ltd. 8-9 New Street, Bishopsgate, London for which the receipts dated 11th April and 2nd December 1930 still exist, copies of which may be seen in the office.

All over scrolling flowers and foliage on a soft rose field with some leaves in a pistachio green; splendid pale gold and ivory corners at the top end and pale gold and pale green spandrels at the lower end; the central medallion in indigo with pale blue, ivory and pale green details.
