A mid-19th Century carpet section, designed by A.W.N. Pugin for the Houses of Parliament, the central yellow field with overall stylized rosettes within a red repeating cruciform border, approx 200cm x 108cm (cut and joined from a larger carpet). Note: the border design of this fragment can be viewed on the V&A collection website, museum number D.808-1908, where it states that it was 'identified by Crace as being for the Houses of Parliament'.
A large Persian carpet, circa 1910. Approximately 915 cm (30') x 457 cm (15'). CONDITION REPORT: The size of the carpet in the catalogue is incorrect. It is 392 cm wide and 624 cm in length (we were given the measurements by the vendor). The carpet is really quite badly worn and faded in areas. It has also been reduced in length and has had a section removed. It should be possible to see this on the image. In our opinion the carpet looks more worn in the flesh than on the photographs
A LARGE DUN EMER WOOL CARPET, the puice ground with central medallion with Celtic pattern, each decorated with exotic Celtic style birds on dark blue ground. 434 x 350cmNamed in honour of Emer, wife of Cúchulainn, the Dun Emer Guild was founded by Lily and Elizabeth Yeats and Evelyn Gleeson in 1902. The work of the guild was influenced mainly by the prevailing Arts and Crafts movement of the period as well as by the Irish Celtic Revival, and the designs of William Morris. Located in Dundrum in Dublin, the guild produced an array of objects ranging from book bindings to tapestries. At its height, it employed around thirty local women producing works for both private commissions and large exhibitions and fairs. In 1904, the guild exhibited at the Irish Village in the St. Louis World’s Fair in Missouri, USA. The Yeats sisters later split from Gleeson and in 1908 began Cuala Industries, leaving Gleeson to retain the Dun Emer name.
