Wear reveals underlying weft in areas throughout. Fringing has been trimmed to an even length at one end and has been secured with later thread. To the other end, the fringing is very short and has significant wear, losses, and loose threads. It has also been secured with later thread but the wear has encroached into the guard stripe in places. Longest edges are untidy with wear, fraying and some sections of loss. A MAHAL CARPETOf Fereghan design, the indigo field with all-over 'herati' design, within a brick and indigo reciprocal hooked vine border with multiple bordersApproximately 640cm x 400cmProvenance: Supplied by Robert Kime Condition Report: Significant wear overall. Patches of wear reveal underlying weft and knot heads in areas throughout (see images for extent). Carpet appears to have been reduced in size or 'cut and shut'. To the centre of the carpet there is a visible line where the two sides have been joined together (see images). There are strips of additional wear to the carpet where it has been folded in the past. Some old stitched repairs to central field and borders. Fringing with significant wear, losses, and loose threads. This has moved into the guard stripe at both ends. Longest edges are untidy with wear, losses, and fraying (Losses reveal the pale thread underneath the binding). Sections of the longest edges have been re-bound in varying colours of thread. One of the ends has a section of additional wear resulting in later thread being used to secure the join between the fringing and guard stripe.
