I have begun two portraits since writing in this. Margarita Medina. + Mrs Rogers. BOTH 25 x 30.[…]MRS ROGERS of “The Sloop”. I am painting in the Sloop [Inn]. This is a job. The light is poor + time limited. 2.45-4 pm. I hope to keep this a decorative composition. In a different colour scheme to my recent paintings -using … Yellow, Alizarine [sp], Crimson, Viridian GreenShe is a handsome clear-cut woman with most distinctive hair dressing + a charming attractive personality. Tall + angular. With a sensous [sp] mouth yet almost hard face. Something of the Duchess of Windsor style. So she has often been told + I can see it.Mrs Rogers gives me tea after upstairs in a tiny well furnished room overlooking the harbour. A wonderful orange russet thick carpet + when the light is on it – oh!
A LARGE COUNTRY HOUSE CARPET probably Turkish, the dark green ground with a central oval medallion, both ends and sides with conforming centralised half medallions, leafy tendrils interspersed, within borders and guards, areas faded and some damage evident, also fraying to the ends, 560cm long x 420cm wide
with geometric design, signed with initials, 200 x 140cm; together with two further Swedish rölakan carpets, one signed with initials ES, the other ILS, 200 x 140cm and 210 x 140cm (3)Condition report: A small mark to the carpet signed ILS, otherwise generally good, would all benefit from a clean.

A Mashad carpet, signed, approximately 430 x 320cmCondition Report: Some wear but carpet generally maintains good pile overall. Some small patches of additional wear to central field and borders. Tasselled ends with the expected wear, fraying and losses - see images. This wear moves very slightly into the guard stripe in places. Binding to longest edges with some sections of wear and loss. Resulting in loose threads and the underlying cord visiable in sections - see images. Some undulation to edges. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. A Persian carpet, possibly Qum, approximately 150 x 191cmCondition Report: Some wear but carpet generally maintains good plie overall.Fringing is trimmed short at both ends and has the expected wear and fraying. Longest edges have been re-bound. They have some variation in the colour of thread and some wear and small losses. To one longest edge there are areas of additional wear resulting in the underlying cord being loose. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. A Tabriz carpet, approximately 191 x 298cmCondition Report: Some wear overall. Some patches of additional wear reveal underlying weft to central field. Fringing is trimmed short at both ends and has the expected wear, fringing and some losses. Binding to longest edges with some sections of wear which reveal the underlying pale cord in places. A North West Persian carpet, approximately 382 x 303cmCondition Report: Carpet with the expected wear overall. Pale knot heads poke through pile in places. Patches of additional wear where pile is shorter and the underlying weft is exposed - see images. Various small losses to pile in places throughout. Fringing is trimmed short at both ends and has wear, fraying, losses and loose threads. This encroaches into the guard stripe at both ends but a section to one end has an area of loss that has moved into the guard stripe significantly - see images. Later thread has been applied to the fringing at some point to help secure but this has been lost in some sections. Longest edges have been re-bound in varying colours of thread. An Isfahan carpet approximately 420 x 271cmCondition Report: Some wear to pile overall commensurate with age and use. Pile is generally good with some relatively small areas of additional wear, these are not all immediately visible by site but are when the hand is brushed across the surface (see images illustrating all noticeable instances). Pale/ white knot heads are visible sporadically throughout (see images).Some wear, fraying and some loss to fine binding at outermost edges and some areas of undulation at the outermost edges. Some later replacement to fine binding at longer edges. Some sun fading towards one end of the carpet. No obvious significant repairs but small repairs may have been neatly executed and difficult to detect. The fringed ends are almost uniformly short throughout (see images) and with some fraying and minor losses. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. An Isfahan carpet, approximately 434 x 310cmCondition Report: Some wear but carpet generally maintains good pile overall. Some pale knot heads poke through pile in places. Fringing is short/lost and untidy at both ends (see images). There are some small areas of wear and loss to pile of guard stripe adjacent to fringing (possibly form old moth damage in a few places).Some minor wear and fraying to binding of longest edges and a few tufts of pale cord visible. A Kashan carpet, the pale field decorated with stylised flowerheads and vines, within a similarly decorated border, approximately 384 x 305cm Condition Report: Some wear overall with some patches of additional wear to central field and borders. Pale knot heads poke through pile in places. Fringing is trimmed short at both ends and has the expected wear, fraying and some discolourations. Binding to longest edges are in generally good order overall with just some minor wear and undulation. There are some small sections of later thread to one of the edges (see images).
