An illuminated carpet page from a Quran Egypt or Levant, 14th century Ink, gold and natural colours on paper . . Cm 20,00 x 23,00. This page is embellished with five concentric frames of various size. Three of them have a white background and simple geometrical patterns; the biggest frame has a golden background and it is painted in linked floral patterns, while the last one has the same background but it is decorated with a version of the endless knot motive. The most important decoration shows linked geometric figures (pentagons, triangles and rhombi) of different colors, like cobalt blue and ochra, and is embellished with golden half-palmettes. This composition surrounds a six-pointed star placed in the middle of the page. The points of the star continue inside the decoration, and this is a very common representation in Islamic art - the star "doesn't end", because it symbolize one of the virtues of God, the infinity.
