Decorative Chinese carpet with pretty pale blue field, probably Beijing, circa 1930s 15ft. x 12ft. 4.57m. 3.66m. Some surface marks; slight wear with white warps evident in places. Barin Carpets Restoration and Cleaning Company fabric tape each end verso. By family repute removed from an Embassy cinema foyer in the 1930s thus by descent to the present owner. Originally part of a large consignment of Chinese carpets and rugs purchased from Bodigian, Ridley & Co. Ltd. 8-9 New Street, Bishopsgate, London for which the receipts dated 11th April and 2nd December 1930 still exist, copies of which may be seen in the office.

Attractive Ushak carpet, west Anatolia, early 20th century, 16ft. 5in. x 11ft. 7in. 4.99m. x 3.53m. Overall wear, slightly heavier in some places with some fading; lower end with slight damages/holes; moth damage in places; ‘bite’ to lower left corner. All over scrolling flowers and foliage on a soft rose field with some leaves in a pistachio green; splendid pale gold and ivory corners at the top end and pale gold and pale green spandrels at the lower end; the central medallion in indigo with pale blue, ivory and pale green details.
Attractive Yomut Turkmen kepse gul carpet, Turkmenistan, late 19th century, 10ft. 9in. x 6ft. 6in. 3.28m. x 1.98m. Flatweave ends. Some wear in places. Note the meandering ovadan motif in the ivory main border and the elem panels with diagonal rows of minor guls featuring confronting arrowheads. A colourful example with velvety wool.
Hereke rug, south west Anatolia, circa 1900, 6ft. 3in. x 3ft. 11in. 1.91m. x 1.20m. Some areas of wear. Note the field design of this rug is very similar to the design of the Salting Carpet (Victoria and Albert Museum, London) but the borders of our piece are different in that there are no cartouches. Very finely woven with lustrous wool and soft handle. See Bennett, I. Rugs & Carpets of the World, Frontispiece and p.88.
Yomut Turkmen kepse gul carpet, Turkmenistan, second half 19th century, 9ft. 6in. x 5ft. 5in. 2.90m. x 1.65m. Overall wear with varying holes, tears and splits throughout; damage/tear to top elem right side. Velvety wool. The red, yellow, navy blue, green and ivory colours show clearly on the back of the carpet. In need of a thorough clean and sympathetic restoration.

Attractive Kashan carpet, the ivory field filled with flowering tree of life and many animals and birds, west Persia, early 20th century, 9ft. 7in. x 7ft. 2.92m. x 2.13m. Overall wear; horizontal surface marks across the field; very slight losses to ends. Dark blue main border of weeping willows, rabbits, birds, deer and flowering shrubs. Velvety wool and rich colour.
