One of the pair is in Wawel Castle, Cracow, Poland, and the other, the famous Sarre carpet, was formerly in the Bernheimer Collection; the latter has been illustrated many times from the early 20th century onwards, hence this Indian copy. For a discussion of the original and a colour reproduction, see Faraday, American and European Carpets and Rugs (1990 ed. Ian Bennett), pl. LXXV, p. 251.
