Mohammed Ait Youssef, an unframed primitive Moroccan Gouache and watercolour painting on card depicting a rural landscape with in the foreground a carpet of vivid coloured Tulip blooms, a lady looking on as two seated figures play musical instruments under a backdrop of a row of Poplar trees screening distant hills. This painting was painted by the son of Said Ait Youssef who was a relatively well-known primitive painter 1920-1984. It was purchased directly from the artist, 5 1/4'' x 8 5/16'' approx. signed lower right.
A Persian pattern Wilton carpet, the blue field centred by a shaped medallion with Arabesque panels amidst an all-over scrolling tendril design and conforming spandrels within broad and narrow panelled borders, 362 cm x 274 cm CONDITION REPORTS Overall some general wear and dirt, various furniture marks/indentations, some cuts and splits to edges which have been glued and reinforced (possibly cut to fit around radiator pipes, furniture, etc.), some fading, but overall a reasonable amount of pile and overall condition appears reasonable.

A Turkish carpet, the central star medallion within tree designed spandrels within stepped and narrow panelled borders, all on a pale blue and pink and blue ground, 346 cm x 265 cm CONDITION REPORTS Overall wear, dirt and stains, quite a lot of fading, but overall wear appears reasonably even and a reasonable amount of pile remains.
Mashad carpet, Khorasan, north east Persia, early 20th century, 18ft. 7in. x 12ft. 3in. 5.67m. x 3.73m. Extensive and heavy wear, particularly in the field. Slight loss to ends and selvedges. The damage to this once attractive carpet, recently removed from a large country house, reflects the fact that it was used in the dining room and thus subjected to chairs being moved back and forth from the table. Provenance: In the same family ownership since it was bought by the present owner’s grandparents in the early 1900s. Sold with all faults not subject to return.
Large and impressive cotton piled carpet, probably Moroccan early 20th century, 15ft.9in. x 15ft.7in. 4.80m. x 4.75m. Overall uneven wear, several small holes, some surface staining. This remarkable and very beautiful large and almost square carpet has both a wonderful palette and a very unusual use of cotton for the pile. Cotton piled carpet are almost exclusively associated with India, and in particular with the city of Multan in the north. This carpet seems fairly clearly not Indian and elements of its design, in particular its borders, are strongly reminiscent of Moroccan rugs. Judicious cleaning and restoration should go a long way to restoring this exceptional carpet to its original beauty and it remains a choice candidate for detailed research.
Attractive German loop pile machine woven carpet, being an accurate copy of a 16th-17th century Safavid ‘vase’ carpet from Kerman, early to mid 20th century, 12ft.9in. x 9ft.8in. 3.89m. x 2.94m. Small area of slight wear top right corner of field, areas of surface staining, small hole lower right corner.
