Signed with initials lower right.Solovioff was a prolific illustrator, having done covers for The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, Fortune, Sports Illustrated, Horizon, Readers Digest and the Smithsonian Institution. He also illustrated articles in Fortune and illustrated some of the Time-Life books. He specialized in illustrating architecture, technology, science and nature. In addition to illustrations for magazines, he did technical illustration for government contracted technical manuals and architectural proposals for Philip Johnson and Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. He was the artist in residence for the Port of New York Authority. Solovioff was educated at Harvard University, where he began studying astronomy, physics and math, but he eventually switched to art history. After obtaining a BA, he got an MFA from Harvard and all but completed a Ph.D. as well. He taught art history, drawing, painting and sculpture at the Fogg Museum of Art while working towards a Ph.D. He also taught at the Parsons School of Design. Solovioff served in World War II in the United States Army and later as a combat artist for the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam. On the direct instructions of Anita Porter nee Lonsbrough Great British Olympic and Commonwealth Games gold medal winning swimmer - collection of early and international memorabilia comprising original Huddersfield Bath Club track suit top bearing eight stitched on cloth badges including British Empire & Commonwealth Games 1958 England Team, YSASA, North Eastern Counties ASA, ESSA Division 3, English Schools Swimming Association winner etcThe swimming costume Anita wore at the 1958 Commonwealth Games in Cardiff, her first major championships, where she won two gold medals. The grey elastic on the sides, in those days, she would use to make it tighter and more streamlined.Blue track suit from the 1960 Olympics which she wore on the podium receiving the gold medal.1960 pool side towelling robe used at the Rome Olympics (interesting to note her name is spelt wrong on the embroidered label).1962 Commonwealth Games pool side towelling robe used in Perth Australia when winning three Gold medals. It was also this year she became BBC Sports Personality of the year, the first female to do so.Her 'lucky' pool side towel which she took with her to every event she competed in and which can be seen round her neck in many official celebratory photographs. Copies of some of these photographs are included for identification.In addition there are two souvenir programmes of an evening event to honour Anita at The Theatre Royal Huddersfield and she has kindly signed the front cover on one of these.Condition Report:Condition is very consistent with age and use.Both towelling robes (which should be white) have a pinkish hue as a result of the colour running from the red trim during laundering. These robes are also fraying in places.
