-Click here to bid - 1949 Ariel 350cc Model NH Reg.no. KFJ 184 Frame no. R3723 Engine no. DJ2054X The Ariel Red Hunter was the name given by Ariel to its range of single cylinder motorcycles and the model was initially designed in 1932 as a 500cc ‘sports’ version. However 250 and 350cc versions were developed and became popular with grass track and trials riders. All Red Hunters had distinctive dark red petrol and oil tanks and were an immediate success with the buying public, forming the backbone of the company. This machine has received a full restoration in recent years to a very high standard and forms part of a private collection of motorcycles coming to the market for the first time in many years. It may require light re-commissioning. It is sold with a new V5c, an old green log book and various receipts. Estimate: £3,800 – 4,500No Reserve
-Click here to bid - 1990 TVR 290 S Sports Reg.no. G201 HOB Chassis no. SA9DSN2P1LD019476 Engine no. D0938 323 TVR began as early as 1946 when its founder started an engineering business that he named Trevcar Motors. Initially the company performed general engineering work (not always automobile related) and would also refresh and service cars and trucks. In 1947 the company was renamed TVR Engineering and in 1949 they built their first original chassis. The company’s history that followed was determined by its various owners, who over the years took the company in different directions. It is the TVRs of the 1990s that we all imagine when the marque is mentioned, which is testament to the impact of this new era. This is characterised by the engine/exhaust note created because TVR moved away from naturally aspirated and turbocharged V6s back to large V8s. This TVR is from a deceased estate and forms part of a collection of motor cars found recently in a series of lock-up garages in Basingstoke. It clearly requires some attention to various areas but it should be a rewarding project. The car is sold with a current V5c and an earlier V5. Estimate: £2,000 – 3,000No Reserve
-Click here to bid - 1978 MGB Sports Reg.no. UEB 128S Chassis no. GHN5-466953G Engine no. 24775 This is another MGB that forms part of the collection of classic cars, recently unearthed in Basingstoke. It appears mostly complete, although certain parts have been removed for remedial works that were clearly underway. The condition of the bodywork appears sound but nothing is known of the condition of the engine. It is sold with a V5c and an old MOT certificate. Estimate: £1,000 – 1,500No Reserve
-Click here to bid - 1980 Marlin Sports Roadster Reg.no. HRD 939W Chassis no. MAHLL1AM215264 Engine no. 59654 Marlin was founded in 1979 by Paul Moorhouse who, after building a series of one off cars for his own use decided to put one into production as a kit car. The first product was the Roadster which was a model that was based around Triumph Herald components. The two seater body was built of aluminium and glass fibre and had a radiator grille slightly similar to pre-war Alfa Romeo sports cars. In 1981 the Morris Marina became the donor car and the Marina engine became standard although many customers fitted engines, gearboxes and back axles of their own choice. This Marlin forms part of the collection of classic cars recently unearthed in Basingstoke and its late owner used several of his cars for hill climbing. This was one such car but it now requires some attention, following a period of storage. The nearside door is removed but present. The dashboard has been brought forward clearly following an electrical fault, but we are unaware of the car’s present condition as it has been off the road for some time. It is sold with an older style V5. Estimate: £800 – 1,200No Reserve
-Click here to bid - 1928 MG 14/40 Sports 2-seater with dickey Reg.no. WO 2150 Chassis no. Unknown Engine no. 271890 The MG Car Company was founded by Cecil Kimber and production began in Oxford in 1924. The early models were based on the Morris Bullnose and were fitted with suitably sporting coachwork. In 1927 the new 14/40 model was launched and production continued for two years. The car you see here was discovered some years ago buried under stone in a barn and in a poor state. Subsequently the car was fully restored in 2009 to a very high standard by the vendor. As many of the original parts were restored and reused as possible. The only major component that needed to be replaced was the chassis frame as it was beyond restoration and a replacement was fitted. During the restoration process several sensible upgrades were incorporated and the car now benefits from rubber engine mounts for smoother running, Lucas coil ignition for increased reliability and a high compression cylinder head to ensure performance matches the cars sporting looks. As a result the car is now ready to use and comes with a current road fund licence, an MOT certificate and a V5c document. The car is finished with beautiful red and silver coachwork complimented by full red leather upholstery. The attention to detail during the restoration process is second to none and this car offers excellent value for money. Early MG`s in this condition seldom come to market so this really does offer a rare opportunity for the new owner. Estimate: £37,000 – 40,000
-Click here to bid - 1953 MGA 1500 Sports Reg.no. 901 EKX Chassis no. HDL13/53253 Engine no. 8G2108 The MGA when introduced was the first of a new breed of post-war MGs and it set the standard for many years to come. Entry into LeMans also helped sales, as customers always like to know that their road car has some racing pedigree. This very presentable MGA is in good overall order and comes complete with a soft top and a hard top. It has a fairly new tonneau cover, produced by Pipers of Sparkford, about two years ago. It is also sold with a brand new wiring loom, which was purchased about three years but as yet not fitted. We understand that although the electrics all work, the car would benefit from a re-wire. It has also had new rear springs and new front brake cylinders fitted, in addition to a host of other works that have been carried out. The vendor tells us that in his ten year ownership, the car has performed well. It is sold with some bills, a current MOT, a current road fund licence and a V5c. Estimate: £13,500 – 14,500
-Click here to bid - 1976 MG Midget 1500 Reg. no. PYJ 984R Chassis no. 6AN6-1858966 Engine no. 32716 The Midget was designed as a small engined sports car with few refinements and it was initially powered by a 1,098cc engine. This was increased to 1,275cc and finally to 1,493cc in 1974. This was the Mk. III which by this stage was offering customers a little more for their money. This Midget is very good in all departments and our vendor believes that the car has had a Heritage body shell at some time in its life. The car is sold with its V5c. Estimate: £?????
Arbuckle Bros. Coffee Co., 1889 Arbuckles` Illustrated Atlas of the United States of America ""A nice example of this unusual atlas that was designed to advertise Arbuckle`s Coffee. The atlas is printed on loose pages held together with original twisted string tie. This oblong 4to atlas has 12 sheets, each with four beautiful chromolithographic maps, plus the covers. The front pictorial cover features a fine bird`s-eye view of the Capitol building in Washington with an eagle and small map of the District of Columbia on the U.S. shield. The back cover has a great map of Alaska surrounded by regional views of seals and whalers caught on an ice field by two Polar bears, plus a moonlit view of the Arbuckle`s Coffee factory in New York. Each of the 48 interior maps is surrounded by vignettes showing the beauty and commerce of the state, with text on the facing page describing the state or territory. Each of the 50 maps is beautifully lithographed in full color. Beginning in the mid-1880`s, the Arbuckle Bros. Coffee Company began to include advertising cards, commonly referred to as """"trade cards"""" in packages of their coffee. This was a common device used by companies of the time to tout the virtues of their products. But the Arbuckle company carried the concept a step further and created a series of very desirable images. They then encouraged their customers to collect the entire series of cards and to trade cards with their neighbors in order to complete their sets. Thus, """"trade"""" cards began to evolve into """"trading"""" cards. Arbuckle issued a great variety of cards including birds, animals, cooking, satire, sports and maps. The map series, U.S. States and Nations of the World, were extremely popular. Both series were reissued in album format, available from the company as a mail-order premium. These fascinating cards and albums are still actively collected today, more than 120 years after they were issued. The original Arbuckle Bros. Coffee Company, on the other hand, vanished from the scene over 60 years ago."" 11.2"" W x 7"" H The maps are near fine with very minor soil along the edges of the sheet and a few tiny creases in the blank margins. The back cover is separated and both covers contain numerous small chips and stains.

DU MAURIER DAPHNE: (1907-1989) British Author. T.L.S., Daphne, four pages, 8vo, Menabilly, Par, Cornwall, 13th August 1958, to 'My dear' (Foy Quiller-Couch). Du Maurier writes a social letter to her friend, commenting on the death of a mutual acquaintance, as well as the health of her husband, Lieutenant-General Frederick Browning, 'The Guradsman, as no doubt you will have heard, had three weeks in hospital soon after we last saw you. Whether it was just boiling up and the dry rot in Yggy touched off the steam, I don't know, but he felt so ill when he got up to London that he went at once to see Lord Evans, the Queen's doctor. The result was hospital for three weeks with what they called “nervous exhaustion” and every test was made. The sum total is that his blood was tending to clot, and so, I surmise, pass too slowly through his system including his brain, hence the general fatigue and depression. He has been given pills to thin the blood, and seems better and less depressed, but is still very thin and not the Guardsman of old, and I am afraid that it will all take time. Lord E said privately to me that he did not think he should continue his job - he has two months clear here anyway with the royals in Scotland - but it leaves rather a vacuom (sic) and I feel the subject is better left for the time being.' Du Maurier also refers to her son ('Kits has a sports car, and dashed around in it all day and is quite happy') and her own work ('I am writing short stories, and sneak out to the hut feeling rather guilty as though going to some assignation') and concludes by commenting on the weather, 'Tod keeps talking of the weather as if it had been sent by the Almighty in deliberate spite upon Cornwall and nowhere else. I believe it to be Europe-wide'. VG Foy Quiller-Couch - daughter of British writer Arthur Quiller-Couch (1863-1944), and a life-long friend of Du Maurier. Indeed, Du Maurier was accompanied by Foy Quiller-Couch when she became inspired with the storyline for her novel Jamaica Inn. Some years previously the two ladies were staying at Jamaica Inn and went riding on Bodmin Moor. They became lost in bad weather conditions and apparently sheltered for some time in a derelict cottage on the moor but were eventually led back to Jamaica Inn by their horses. Lieutenant-General Sir Frederick Browning (1896-1965) British Army officer of World War II who later served, in 1948, as Comptroller and Treasurer to Princess Elizabeth and, following her ascension to the throne in 1952, became Treasurer in the office of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Browning had suffered a nervous breakdown, as a result of heavy drinking, in July 1957, and resigned from his position at Buckingham Palace in 1959.
