THE DRAMA OF GRAF SPEE AND THE BATTLE OF THE PLATE', compiled by Sir Eugen Millington-Drake, London, Peter Davies 1964, limited edition no. 24/55, signed on the frontispiece and dedication by 44 key personnel associated with the action including the captains of Ajax, Achilles and Exeter, Mountbatten of Burma, Admiral Sir David Luce (First Sea Lord), Lt K. Diggins (Graf Spee flag Lt); Captain R. Ruggeburg (Naval Attaché Germany Embassy) and many others, 510pp with indices, maps and illustrations, bound in red full calf with gilt decorated cover and spine --10¼ x 8in. (26 x 20cm.); together with a contemporary white metal plaque commemorating the action, with repousse decoration inscribed 13th December 1939, H.M.S.s Ajax, Achilles and Exeter, with enamelled white ensign to centre, mounted to a wooden shield -- 6in. (15cm.) high, -2, Research conducted with a member of the Exeter association discovered that only eight of these plaques were made by a retired shepherd on the Falkland Islands from recycled RN sports trophies and sold as souvenirs to the crew of the ships undergoing temporary refits there.

Scott-Paine ackniowledges receipt of his correspondent's letter and continues to explain 'I have been in Berlin with Sir Henry Segrave racing “Miss England” where we were successful in establishing this boat in the Championship of Europe and in establishing a new World's lap record for the unlimited class of motor boat'; Henry Segrave (1896-1930) British Land and Water Speed Record holder. T.L.S., de Hane, one page, 4to, London, 13th August 1929, to Hubert Scott-Paine ('Dear S.P.'). Segrave writes to his fellow racer regarding Miss England and their request to have the boat back in London by 26th September, explaining 'This I obviously cannot do because I do not know how long it will take to get the boat back from Venice. But I do promise you that she will leave on the night of the 15th., immediately we can get her packed after the race which finishes at 4.30pm on the afternoon of the 15th. More than this I cannot do'. Segrave further asks if the exhibitors will defray the extra heavy cost of the freight express. With a purple date received stamp to the lower left corner and a single blue indelible pencil stroke through the text; William Morris (1877-1963) 1st Viscount Nuffield. British Motor Manufacturer. T.L.S., Nuffield, one page, small 4to, Cowley, Oxford, 11th May 1936, to Mr. Cond, on the printed stationery of Morris Motors Ltd. Morris thanks his correspondent for their letter and photographs 'which will form very happy souvenirs of a pleasant voyage' and further remarking that he has returned from the trip 'feeling very much restored'. An excellent vintage signed 8 x 10 photograph, the image depicting Wayne in a half-length pose wearing a sports jacket and checkered shirt, and holding a lit cigarette. The image is a Republic Pictures publicity portrait for the film Flame of Barbary Coast (1945) in which Wayne starred in the role of Duke Fergus.
