The Don Morley Collection, Part 1. The following lots have all been consigned by Don Morley, one of the Country’s leading Sports photographers throughout the 1970s, 80s & 90s. During that time Don held a number of prominent positions including Chief Photographer of the British Olympic Association, Official Photographer for the Football League and Chief Photographer for Sports World & World Sports Magazines. A winner of numerous awards Don also had a good eye for memorabilia and during his worldwide travels he amassed a fine collection of tickets, programmes, posters and other items from various sports. Today we offer part 1 of the collection and can, in future sales, look forward to seeing a superb Motor Sport Collection and a good range of published & unpublished photographs covering most sports. 1957 EURPEAN CUP Semi-Final Real Madrid v Manchester United played 11 April 1957. The Madrid weekly sports magazine Marca dated 16th April 1957. Front cover is entitled Real Madrid Supero Al Manchester and includes picture of Real Madrid players celebrating after the first goal, inside there are reports and over 20 pictures from the match. 1957 EUROPEAN CUP Quarter Final Athletic Bilbao v Manchester United first leg played 16th January 1957. The Madrid weekly sports magazine Marca dated 22 January 1957 reviewing the first leg in Spain which United lost 5-3, include pictures and reports, the front cover has a picture of both captains exchanging pennants prior to kick-off. EUROPEAN CUP FINAL Real Madrid v Fiorentina played 30th May 1957 at the Bernabeu, Madrid. Two issues of the Italian daily sports paper La Gazzetta Dello Sport dated 30th &31st May `57 previewing and reviewing the match, team line-ups are listed in both papers. Fold, very slight ageing.
