This large collection of shooting medals were won by Brian Moore of California, along with the following lots 319 - 398, and were all part of his collection, which spanned 60 years. His working experience includes time spend Lockheed working on missile projects, IBM working with moon exploration as commissioned by President John F. Kennedy, and worked at Stanford and University of California in their labs. He was integral to the Moon program and worked with General Curtis Lamay and Buzz Aldrin. He invented, designed, worked on, produced, and solved many of the issues during the early days of U.S. space exploration. He also is credited with inventing and designing the first submarine with umbilical system for underwater launches of missiles in Cape Canaveral. His ability as a marksman, as evidenced by the numerous metals in this collection, was well known. He was a lifetime master in both pistol and high powered rifle. Much of his spare time throughout a span of 50 years was spent at the Napa Rifle Range, but he traveled as far as Japan as the Naval Air Station. The last time he fired a match using iron sights at 1,000 yards was in Hollister, California using his National Match M1 Springfield. He started competing in 1939 and continued for 45 years. It is also very apparent that Brian had a life long love affair with all things mechanical and his passion for the shooting sports was unparalleled. This large collection of shooting medals is encompassed in two period framed collections consisting of 42 medals in each display. It would be extremely tedious to list each and every medal. Most are for revolver and pistol. The dating of the medals in Frame (A) are 1946 to 1960; the majority of the matches were shot in Oakland with some scattered NRA and National Match medals. They are all in excellent shape with ribbons. Frame (B) medals are dated 1946 to 1948 and are also in excellent condition with ribbons. Green background has some fading. It is obvious some medals have some sterling silver and are tarnished. We do not know if any are real gold. Many have the enamel decorations.

Lot 696

The earliest catalog for reference showing the J.P. Sauer action is 1961. This is an interesting and early rifle for numerous reasons: first, it is chambered for the non-Weatherby caliber, the majority of the J.P. Sauer action Mk Vs were built around the exclusive Weatherby cartridge line-up; secondly, is has the Weatherby South Gate address on frame but is not marked "Made in Germany", the actions came from Germany but this one is not marks as such anywhere on the rifle. It has the distinctive stock design with the rakish Monte Carlo comb profile with roll-over cheek piece, the standard diamond skip checkering on forend and wrist, and contrasting rosewood tip and grip cap with the white diamond design that quickly identifies as a Weatherby rifle. Features high polish contoured blued barrel with no markings other than caliber. High polish blued frame is simply stamped "Mk V" with the Weatherby California address. Sports Redfield mounts with rings and a Weatherby red waffle pad. No provisions for sights. Has a blued floorplate and trigger guard with a slight violet hue. There is a slight hairline crack or wood separation on left side of wrist that almost looks like a break in the varnish. White diamond has toned over as if some finish was added at rear of stock. Wood remains in excellent condition with the usual bumps and bruises. Fine bore and action. Bolt is jeweled with oil holes, but not the usual oil grooves seen on later Weatherby's. This rifle has to be one of the earliest known rifles built with the J.P. Sauer action between 1959 to 1960. Serial Number-16142; Manufacturer-Weatherby; Model-MKV; Caliber-.270 WCF; Barrel Length-24"; FFL Status-Curio & Relic;

Manufactured in 1970. For some unknown reason, only 2% of Colt's production of Pre-Series 70 Model 1911-A1 were manufactured in factory nickel finish. During the late part of 19th century, numerous cavalry Colts were called back into service. These revolvers were made from a number of mixed parts, their barrels were shortened to 5-1/2" and were reissued to U.S. troops, many going to the Philippines for the insurrection against the Moros whom were crazed on narcotics. These guns were subsequently arsenal refinished at the time of alterations and are considered a U.S. genre of weapon unlike most rebuilds. This revolver sports the following parts: cylinder number "2763", DFC inspected with "H" and "P", barrel is stamped "0759" and "AP", frame is stamped "04086", "DFC", trigger guard stamped "138201", stamped "K" and butt is stamped "136334" and "K". The refinished, original walnut grips no longer show cartouche and are slightly shy to metal. Frame has traces of case colors, barrel has approximately 20% of the original arsenal blue and grips are excellent. Frame screws are slightly marred, still retains some Nitre blue. Fine, near mint, strong bore. Cylinder indexes perfectly but does not have the four distinctive clicks. Far above average, artillery model, well cared for and clean. Serial Number-84086; Manufacturer-Colt; Model-Single Action Army; Caliber-.45 L.C.; Barrel Length-5 - 1/2"; FFL Status-Antique;

Lot 1100

Manufactured in 1906 during the second year of production. Only 6,100 of these pistols were manufactured between 1905 and 1911 and were replaced by the Model 1911 which began production in 1912. Therefore, this is the forerunner to its more famous offspring. Production of this pistol was less than one thousand guns per year and most saw heavy use and very few have survived in such high, all original, factory condition as seen in this stunning example. The grip straps are thinning to a blue, soft gray patina and there is some light high edge wear. The balance of blue finish on the frame and slide are nearly 98%. Still has the beautiful Nitre blue on extractor. Has the round hammer with traces of case colors. Large portion of Nitre blue on sides of trigger and sports a near mint pair of diamond checkered walnut grips with fire blue screws. Bore is near mint. All factory legends are sharp. This is the finest condition Model 1905 we have come across in several years and would be extremely difficult to find a finer example. Serial Number-828; Manufacturer-Colt; Model-1905; Caliber-.45 ACP; Barrel Length-4 - 3/4"; FFL Status-Curio & Relic;CORRECTION: Bought on a Loan Account by Lt. C.F.G. Armstrong on May 31, 1906, possibly for testing.

Less than 9,000 Auto-Mags were produced by all manufacturers. This is an original Pasadena model of which 3,300 were manufactured in .44 AMP caliber only with 6-1/2" vent rib barrel. The handgun was made famous in the 1983 Dirty Harry movie "Sudden Impact". This pistol comes in original plastic carry case with the original May 1971 dated manual with bullet chart. It was subsequently engraved by Ben Shostle, a charter member of the Firearms Engravers Guild of American in Munci, Indiana. His certificate of engraving, dated 1994, lists this manufacture, model, caliber, and serial number (he wrote serial No. A01939 instead A01959). Has deep scroll and leaf engraving on frame, barrel and trigger guard done in the deep chiseled relief Germanic style. Has the stainless steel polished finished with black composite grips. Appears to have never been fired since finished. Mint action and near mint bore. Sports adjustable target sights. Simply a fantastic, early AMT Auto-Mag. Box hinge is broken. The West German firm of J.P. Sauer & Sohn has been world renowned of their quality bolt action rifles for well over a century and a half. The quality and workmanship that goes into these weapons is unsurpassed. We offer here a model extremely scarce on this side of the pond, it is not even listed in the blue book, the Sauer Model 80 Grand African. Chambered for the powerful .458 Winchester Magnum and capable of taking down the world's most dangerous game. The smoothness of the action, the quality of the high polished blue finish, and the beautifully checkered pistol grip walnut stock with contrasting forend tip and grip cap are, simply stated, the finest available. The barrel, bolt and frame retain virtually all of the expertly reapplied high polish blue finish but there is a few spots under this finish on the frame, none of which detracts from the overall beauty. Rifle features the detachable magazine. Sports a hooded front sight with an adjustable safari type rear sight made to withstand heavy service duty and simple adjustments. The action is like butter and it has a mirror bore. While there may be fancier big game rifles, the quality of this rifle cannot be surpassed. Africa awaits! This rifle dates to Roy's early days of custom rifles in South Gate, California using the old FN actions that he ordered from Belgium with his name stamped on left side receiver bridge. He started building these rifles right after the war, and this one probably dates to late 1940's to early 1950's. It features a highly polished blued Apex barrel and high polished blued FN action. Flat inner bolt is checkered. Blued floorplate and trigger guard have faded to 75%. Flat counter-bored muzzle. Sports a beautifully grained Monte Carlo comb checkered pistol grip walnut stock with dark contrasting forend tip and grip cap with traditional Weatherby diamond, that appears to be dark rosewood with gold plated sling eyes and an early Weatherby black recoil pad. There is some slight loss to the Nitre blue on bolt release and a couple of minor age freckles on top of frame, otherwise the gun appears to be in near new condition inside and out. Perfect action. Strong bore. There are none of the early exotic wood inserts on this classic early post-war Weatherby hand-built custom rifle in a very scarce caliber. Anything not in a Weatherby caliber is very scarce. Early Remington caliber. Lot 1137

While Roy Weatherby is known worldwide for his fabulous rifles built using the FN Mauser and later J.P. Sauer action, he was, in the beginning, a custom rifle maker and would build a rifle using any action the client requested. This practice ended in the early 1970's when his business got to large to offer such custom work and a demand for his standard rifles was worldwide. Roy built this rifle utilizing a Shultz & Larson Mauser type action, an M 54 J manufactured in Denmark. It is fitted with a "Weatherby .378 Magnum" marked barrel with no provision for sights. The matted rib on frame has two scope blocks installed. The rear stock has a distinctive Weatherby profile, but from the trigger guard forward it is a much beefier and boxy design. He used a very light wood with his signature contracting rosewood forend tip and grip cap with white diamond. Sports the Shultz & Larson quick release floorplate and trigger guard. The bolt is in the white with three oil holes, but no oil grooves. Sports a Weatherby black waffle buttpad and sling eyes. Frame and barrel retains virtually all of their original high polish blue finish, as does floorplate and trigger guard. Stock is excellent to near mint with just a couple of very minor impressions. The only flaw is that there is a hairline repaired 2" crack on left side of forearm starting at rosewood tip along the barrel contour that could easily be repaired properly as to not be seen. Perfect bore and action. The .378 Weatherby Magnum, which was a vast improvement on the old .375 H&H, was a new cartridge that took two years to develop and is capable of taking down the world's largest and most dangerous game. This cartridge has taken nearly every large dangerous game animal in the world.
