A 1981 Lotus Esprit S3, registration number HBZ 1590, chassis number SCC085912BHD11043, Calypso red. The Giorgetto Giugiaro's designed Esprit was launched at the Paris Auto Show in October 1975, replacing the Europa in the Lotus model line. The Esprit would go on to find fame in two James Bond movies, The Spy Who Loved Me in 1977, where a white S1 would transform into a submarine, and For Your Eyes Only in 1981, where two Essex Turbos in white and copper starred alongside Roger Moore. This normally aspirated example has covered a mileage of less than 70,000 miles over its 35 years on the road, substantiated by a run of MOTs from 1984. Finished in striking Calypso red with a contrasting half black leather and red alcantara interior and sitting on BBS alloy wheels, this Esprit looks very purposeful and every inch the sports car Colin Chapman intended. This S3 has benefited from many thousands of pounds worth of maintenance over the years including a cylinder head overhaul and engine bay refurbishment in 2015 at a cost of £5,236.99, amongst other noteworthy works. This well maintained example is offered for auction with a large history file with receipts, past MOTs and correspondence. V5C, MOT to February 2017 See illustrations
