Lot 274

1977 Lotus Esprit S1 Transmission: manualMileage:34048First shown as a prototype on a modified Europa chassis at the 1972 Turin show, the Esprit was launched at the 1975 Paris Motor Show. It went into production in June 1976, replacing the Europa in the model line-up. Lotus focused on the engineering, but the styling was given to Giorgio Giugiaro and his then new Italdesign studio. Giugiaro suggested the name Esprit, which remained on the production car. Power was supplied by an all new 160 horsepower all alloy Lotus, 2.0 litre, twin-cam, four-cylinder, mid-mounted engine. The S1 is easily distinguished from the second series car by its shovel style front air dam, lack of rear quarter ducting, and Wolfrace alloy wheels. The Series I Esprit gained fame through its appearance in the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me.This US imported example of the S1 is difficult to miss in striking yellow paintwork which is complemented by black interior. This enthusiast owned Lotus has recently benefitted from extensive and fully documented works including a new cambelt in 2021 and totalling over £14,000 by the SJ Sports Cars Garage in Devon who are known as 'the No1 Lotus Esprit garage and parts supplier on earth'. The S1 has been described a proper drivers car with well judged suspension and responsive steering and we are informed that this car is no exception. The Esprit has a cosy cabin with a plunging dashboard and high transmission tunnel resulting in a luxurious cabin that totally envelopes occupants. This S1 is an import taxes paid example but prospective buyers should be aware that the car will need to be registered with the DVLA. With its lightweight, ground hugging profile and mid-mounted engine, this Esprit is a joy on twisty roads.

2007 Westfield Megablade Transmission: manualMileage:16800Whilst externally sharing a common look, Westfield and Caterham cars are somewhat different in construction. Westfield prefers to employ the same glass fibre body method that Lotus has traditionally used for their other models such as the Elise, Esprit, and Elan, rather than the aluminium used by Caterham. Westfield has also pioneered technical innovations such as Independent Rear Suspension and a wider chassis, which other manufacturers have since adopted.  In the first series of BBC's Top Gear, a Westfield XTR2 driven by the Stig set a faster lap time than the reigning record holder of that series, the Pagani Zonda.A fantastic example of the lightweight sports car, which delivers a truly visceral driving experience thanks to a high-revving motorbike engine. This 2007 Westfield Megablade is powered by the 990cc Honda CBR900 RR Fireblade inline-four, which drives the rear wheels through a manual transmission.Presented in bright yellow paintwork this one owner from new example has black racing seats with yellow piping and Willans harnesses. A new Pipercross filter, track rod ends and ball joints have been fitted and the car is offered with two sets of keys. Offered with the car is a history file with previous receipts and a new MoT certificate. This Westfield Megablade offered with a new MoT certificate would make an excellent weekend or track-day toy for a keen driver looking for an immersive experience on the road or circuit.

2013 ASM DBR 1 Replica Transmission: manualMileage:7489The title of the 'most important Aston' goes to the DBR1, endorsed by the fact that, in 2017, one of only five cars produced went to public auction for the first time ever, and sold for an astonishing $22.5m - a world record for a British car at the time. The Aston Martin DBR1 was the result of company owner David Brown's ambition to win the world's oldest active sports car race - the 24 Hours of Le Mans, his dream was realised in 1959. The journey to find the makers of the magnificent DBR1 reproduction takes us to a farm in rural Norfolk, where Andrew Soar of AS Motorsport has been building the ASM R1 Le Mans for private clients since 2007. Andrew's cars are fine examples of great British craftsmanship, providing joy to the dozens of customers who've commissioned his work and (given that only one original DBR1 has surfaced for sale since they were first built) offering the only real chance of acquiring such a vehicle. The majority of cars are built using a Jaguar XK engine and gearbox, available from 2.4 litre through to 4.2 litre. The chassis shares many features with the original design, and offers the possibility of having seat, foot-well, pedal and steering locations designed to suit individual requirements. The period feel of the interior is provided with Mota-Lita wood rim steering wheel, Smiths instruments, alloy panelling and leather-trimmed seats. The body is only painted in Aston Martin Green, other colours were not an option! This fabulous one owner example is the second one purchased by the registered keeper. Having enjoyed the first one so much, when Andrew Soar made some modifications to the original cars, he promptly ordered one. Sadly, having passed away, the family have taken the decision to part with this highly cherished example. Upon ordering the car it was decided to put the well tried and trusted Jaguar XK 3.8 litre engine in her, with fuel delivered by triple Weber 45DCOE carburettors. This is mated to a five-speed gearbox. The chassis is a perimeter space frame design, which is very similar to the original and has been powder coated in the original colour. The aluminium body reduces weight and thus enhances performance. Sixteen-inch wheels with Borani knock-ons, rack and pinion steering and adjustable shock absorbers all contribute toward great road holding. Braking is via disc brakes all round with ventilated discs on the front. An extensive history folder accompanies this ASM DBR1 replica, no stone was left unturned when it came to maintenance. Supplied with a V5C registration document, together a current MoT test certificate valid until 24th April 2023, this really is a great fun car that bears exacting bodily features of the original car. Viewing is highly recommended to fully appreciate the quality and how well looked after this car has been.Interested parties please note there is an adjustment to the catalogue description. The bodywork of this ASM is GPR and the boot, bonnet and doors are aluminium.

2000 Mercedes-Benz CLK 430 Convertible Transmission: automaticMileage:59661In keeping with many of the other Mercedes model series, the new CLK-class in 2002 was able to bear the three-letter mark of sporting prowess: AMG. The package promised superlative power delivery and outstanding handling as well as a list of equipment that exuded exclusivity. Topping the new CLK range was a V8 model that delivered performance on a par with a typical sports car; the CLK AMG produced an impressive 342bhp that could propel this stylish sports coupé to 60mph in just 5.2 seconds. Further features that made the flagship CLK-class sports model really stand out included a special AMG body styling for the front apron, rear apron, and side skirts. Not to mention the 18" AMG light alloy wheels and the AMG exhaust system with twin tailpipes.Originally registered on 12th April 2000 this CLK430 presents in beautiful, unmarked condition. The paintwork has recently been refreshed and the tyres are new. The fastidious vendor has used the car sparingly of late and has decided it is time to part with this Mercedes-Benz Convertible. The wheels are unmarked, and the roof operates exactly as it should. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a full years MoT test certificate together with the service pack and history, these V8 Mercedes-Benz are great to drive, offering smoothness, performance, and reliability all in one package. 2007 Aston Martin Vanquish S Transmission: Mileage:75693A total of 1,086 Vanquish S models were manufactured between 2005 and 2007 and it was debuted at the 2004 Paris Motor Show. Offering a power increase from 460bhp to 520bhp, other changes included new wheels, a slightly different nose shape, new raised boot lid with a larger integrated spoiler and the addition of a small front splitter for aerodynamic reasons which help the Vanquish S boast an improved drag coefficient. The car also featured an optional Sports Dynamic Package which incorporated sportier suspension, steering and larger brakes than the standard V12 Vanquish. With a top speed exceeding 200mph, the Vanquish S was, at the time, the fastest Aston Martin ever produced. This stunning Aston Martin Vanquish S with the fabulous 6.0 litre V12, presented in Tungsten Silver (same as in the Bond film) with Obsidian Black interior and quilted headlining is a very sought-after model, having always been garaged which is evident by the great condition the car is in. Optional extras fitted by the factory were an engine pre-heater, Bluetooth, Red Brake Calipers (replaced with new original gold ones last year), console storage box, body coloured door release, front stone guards, heated front screen and desirable 2+2 seating. Offered with a full service history and more recently benefitting from a full clutch replacement and two new fuel pumps by Aston Service, Dorset just 200 miles ago. During the most recent full service in 2021 the car also benefitted from all the possible upgrades that they have to offer, with David Such having spent a lot of time researching the potential issues known about these cars and producing parts to prevent these from happening. These upgrades fitted last year include AP Racing discs attached to new high grade anodised aluminium bells which carry a different bobbin design and much improved anti-rattle springs to eliminate the brake rattle issues. Also included were Ferodo Race Pads all round, aluminium wheel arch liner brackets which replaced the existing steel ones equalling zero corrosion to the tub, front water manifold pipes coupled to a full set of upgraded radiator hoses, a replacement misfire module shields and fuse cover box. Under bonnet side panels, Black stainless steel bolt kit for the undertrays and all other fixings exposed to the elements under the car were also replaced along with K&N cone air filters to replace the OEM single cylinder filter. Also replaced was the rear exhaust muffler/back box, it was replaced with a Quicksilver Sport version instead which sounds amazing!! Everything else on the car is as per factory fitted standard specification, over £15,000 has been spent on this car last year to future proof it for the next owner. In all other respects this car is in immaculate condition and must been seen. Just having their 20th anniversary this year, the Vanquish is officially the last hand made cars made by Aston Martin and therefore suitably collectable and are appreciating in value nicely.

1966 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 2+2 Coupé Transmission: manualMileage:63768Launched at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, the Jaguar E-Type was nothing short of a revelation. With its heady blend of supercar performance, breath-taking styling and low price-tag, the newcomer left rivals reeling and customers clamouring. Early sportscar racing success at the hands of Graham Hill and Roy Salvadori amongst others helped cement its reputation. Built as a monocoque with a front subframe to cradle the engine, the model's combination of all-round independent suspension, rack and pinion steering and four-wheel disc brakes gave it excellent road holding and handling capabilities. Fed by triple SU HD8 carburettors and topped with a 'straight port' DOHC cylinder head, its indomitable 3781cc straight-six engine was quoted as developing some 265bhp and 260lbft of torque. Allied to a four-speed Moss gearbox, it reputedly enabled the E-type to sprint from 0-60mph in 6.9 seconds and onto 150mph. The E-type remains for many the ultimate production Jaguar. This lovely, home market, right hand drive, 1966 Jaguar E-Type 2+2 Fixedhead Coupé has recently had over £87,000 spent on recommissioning, body repairs and painting. Purchased by the owner in 2016 after being in long term storage, the last MoT test certificate was in 1999 and shows the mileage then to be 63,085 miles. It is believed the car had some restoration work carried out in 1979 when the colour was changed from red to dark blue, and the engine was rebuilt in 1985. Now finished in Gunmetal Grey the restorers retained the original maroon leather seats, which are in good condition, but replaced the headlining and carpets. This lovely E-Type Coupé is supplied with a V5 registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in April 2023 and a file containing old invoices and MoT test certificates from the mid 1980's to 1999. The E-Type Jaguar is regarded to be one of the prettiest sports cars from the 1960's, as said by Enzo Ferrari, and good examples remains as sort after in today's market.

1958 Jaguar XK150 Roadster (3.4 litre) Transmission: manualMileage:42171Despite having a family resemblance to the XK120 and XK140, the XK150 was radically modernised. A one-piece windscreen replaced the split screen and the wing line no longer dropped as much over the doors. The bonnet was widened, opened down to the wings, and on the roadster the bulkhead was moved back four inches to make the bonnet longer. In the interior, the XK140's walnut dashboard was replaced by one trimmed in leather and chrome. On the early drophead coupés, an aluminium centre dash panel with an 'X' pattern engraving was fitted which looked similar to the early 3.8 E-Type. It was discontinued after June 1958. The standard engine, the same as fitted to the XK140, was the 3.4 litre DOHC Jaguar straight-six rated at 180bhp at 5750rpm. These were high performance, well-appointed sports touring cars capable of 137mph and 0-60 in 7.8 seconds and could accomplish long distances with comfort and in great style. This left hand drive Jaguar XK150 roadster was supplied through Jaguar Cars, New York on the 4th July 1958 to a Mr Howard Campbell. Imported to the UK at the beginning of 2014 from California in the current cream paintwork with racing strips, it was purchased by the current owner in June 2015. While in his ownership he has gone through the car and made a number of improvements including having it retrimmed in red leather, new roof, replacing the gearbox and overdrive for a five-speed unit (the original matching numbers gearbox is supplied with the car), triple Weber carburettor conversion, Coopercraft style brakes, a new stainless steel exhaust system, new fuel pumps, a new speedometer reset with the mileage of the old speedo and a new petrol tank. This XK150 OTS comes with the personal number plate 3 MUY and is supplied with a V5C registration document, a Heritage certificate, the original handbook, a sales brochure, and a file containing a few UK invoices. This is an XK 150 for the driving enthusiast, to use and enjoy on the many pleasurable roads around the UK and Europe.

1930 Chevrolet Sports Roadster Transmission: manualMileage:The Chevrolet Series AD Universal or Chevrolet Universal AD began sales in 1930. Available in a variety of body types including as a two-door coupé, four-door saloon and a delivery van.Purchased in 2014 whilst admittedly looking for a Model A our vendor purchased this car and what became a seven-year love affair began. Believed to be the only one of this year and body style in the UK, it is right hand drive, originally sold in Uruguay and brought to UK in the 1970s. For many years the car has been part of a collection owned by William (Freddie) Cunningham in Scotland but in need of restoration. It has been stripped down to the bare chassis and completely rebuilt with all new chrome then re-wired and converted to 12volts. Boasting a 3.2 litre engine, six-cylinder, three-speed non-synchromesh gearbox, and four-wheel brakes. The main cab seats two in considerable comfort and there is a Dickie seat behind with custom made rubber mats on the floor. Within the history file are two accounts from previous owners and a detailed timeline of the restoration coupled with the UK registration certificate. Now in pristine condition this example has won a number of prizes, however it is not primarily a show car and has been used regularly on various runs with the Preston & District Vintage Car Club. As such it probably drove well over 2,000 miles per year, but sadly in 2021 the owner passed and Historics have been asked to find this glorious piece of American automotive history a new home which has been recently valued in excess of £40,000.

1973 Jensen Interceptor Mk. III SP Transmission: automaticMileage:1500Alan and his brother Richard Jensen first became involved with car design and construction in 1925 when their efforts to improve on the styling and performance of an Austin Seven Chummy attracted much favourable attention. A few Jensen-bodied Fords were produced in the mid-1930s before a more serious manufacturing effort commenced in 1938. After World War II, Jensen kept itself afloat by producing bodies for other manufacturers, most notably Austin Healey, while producing its own stylish GTs in limited numbers. It was not until the Interceptor's arrival in 1967 that cars began to leave the West Bromwich factory in more substantial numbers. With the Interceptor's introduction, Jensen switched from glass fibre to steel for its car bodies, though underneath the preceding C-V8's chassis, running gear and 6,276 cc Chrysler engine remained substantially unchanged. With around 280 bhp on tap, performance was more than adequate, The Motor recording a top speed of 140 mph with 100 mph arriving from a standstill in 19 seconds. Four-wheel servo-assisted Dunlop discs looked after the braking while the ride quality could be varied by the Armstrong Selectaride dampers' dashboard control. Leather upholstery, reclining front seats, and walnut veneer trim were all standard features of this Vignale-styled Anglo-American GT, while automatic transmission was the choice of almost all buyers. The Series II incorporated revised front suspension, Girling brakes, and a redesigned interior, while the Series III, introduced in October 1971, came with a 7.2-litre engine, better seats, central locking, and GKN alloy wheels. The SP (six-pack) was the rare one - with only 232 being built. This lovely example is the very rare and desirable SP model and is presented in Black Garnet, synonymous as a Rolls-Royce colour and looks superb. Its interior has been upgraded to a more luxurious specification to include new front seats with burgundy leather, including door cards and the dash and console have been replaced with burr walnut which looks superb. The current vendor has owned this wonderful sports car since 1976 and is only the third owner from new. In this time, he has also enhanced the Jensen with some extremely smart modifications which include hydraulic lifts for the boot lid, operated from inside with a switch and there is an air compressor in the boot which can be connected up to a fixture which would enable one to blow up the tyres whenever necessary; the spare tyre automatically descends on the press of a button and ascends on the push of a button making it very practical to access when needed. The front seats recline electrically, electric folding mirrors, one touch electric windows and there are footwell lights to front and rear. The air conditioning works well, and the owner has also fitted ABS brakes which makes sense these days and he also boxed in the front and rear wheel arches which keeps the engine bay devoid of road dirt and the rear also. The headlining was also replaced, and the owner also had all controls for indicators etc mounted on stalks from the steering column. Its original mighty 7.2 litre engine is fabulous, and the original SP (six pack) has been removed and replaced with a more user-friendly single twin choked carburettor. The car is also fitted with an immobilizer, new stainless-steel exhaust and it comes with a good photographic and documented history. This really is a superb example that has been sympathetically upgraded to an extremely high standard making it very drivable and useable compared to its more 'original' examples.

Lot 164

1963 Jaguar E-Type Series I Roadster (3.8 litre) Transmission: manualMileage:374Introduced in 3.8 litre form in 1961, the Jaguar E-Type caused a sensation when it appeared with instantly classic lines and 150mph top speed. While, inevitably, the car's stupendous straight-line performance and gorgeous looks grabbed the headlines, there was a lot more to the E-Type beneath the skin. The newcomer's design owed much to that of the racing D-Type and, indeed, the E-Type would be one of the last great sports cars developed directly from a successful competition ancestor. Just as in the D-Type, a monocoque tub formed the main body/chassis structure while a tubular spaceframe extended forwards to support the engine. The latter was the same 3.8-litre, triple-carburettor, 'S' unit first offered as an option on the preceding XK150. With a claimed 265 horsepower on tap, the E-Type's performance did not disappoint; firstly, because it weighed around 500lb less than the XK150 and, secondly, because aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer used experience gained with the D-Type to create one of the most elegant and efficient shapes ever to grace a motor car. This E-Type has been nut and bolt restored and presents in stunning condition. The bodywork was stripped and any corrosion cut-out and repaired as necessary. Mechanically it has been very well cared for having been converted from left hand to right hand drive. The engine was stripped and rebuilt, as was the suspension and brakes. The electrical system was also taken care of, with everything working as it should. The metallic grey coachwork is unmarked and is complemented by burgundy leather interior. The trim work, like the rest of the car, has been done to an excellent standard. Open the bonnet and the quality of this E-Type is plainly evident, the engine with its polished cam covers glistens and the underside of the bonnet is painted to a finish commensurate of such a splendid example. Underneath, this Jaguar is unmarked and mechanically she is faultless with the six-cylinder engine sounding superb; we are advised she drives impeccably. Rarely do we see cars of such outstanding quality with unmarked coachwork, new interior and hood together with impeccable brightwork. This really is one of the best Jaguar E-Types we have seen.

2004 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG Transmission: automaticMileage:74900The fifth generation of the legendary SL series of two-door convertible sports cars was known as the R230. It featured a fully retractable hardtop that was marketed as the Vario Roof, a first for the SL class although it had been available on the smaller SLK model since 1997. The flagship models were built by AMG in the form of the SL55 and SL65, both highly tuned versions of the SL500 and SL600 respectively. The SL55 was powered by a mighty supercharged version of the 5.5 litre, V8 which produced 493bhp and achieved 0-62 in 4.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 155mph (governed). In theory the SL55 could reach 190mph if the car was derestricted but for many, the acceleration and top speed is impressive enough in its standard form! This delightful example started life at a whopping £123,000 when new and has been well looked after by the fastidious vendor. Originally registered on 1st June 2004, this SL55 AMG has covered a modest 74,900 miles. Presented in metallic black coachwork over a black leather interior the Mercedes benefits from a service completed circa 2,000 miles ago. This Mercedes-Benz has a panoramic hardtop and has recently been fitted with a new PSE pump and a set of front brake discs and pads. It comes complete with a Bose sound system, radar controlled speed control, full extended leather to the dashboard and doors and an AMG Alcantara sports steering wheel. The paintwork presents in very good order and the interior shows little sign of age as do the alloy wheels which are shod with good tyres all round. The specification of this example is outstanding, with a comprehensive list of factory options. Reported to drive very well by the current vendor the SL is offered with a sizeable history file including sundry bills, the original wallet and handbook including the service book containing 10 stamps, old MoT records, a current UK registration document, and a MoT valid until February 2023. These stylish sportscars are magnificent to drive and are hugely popular due to their ability to sit in traffic or travel at exceptional speed (where permitted) in comfort; what a great way to enjoy the summer. This vehicle was recorded as a category D insurance claim in 2007 (Vehicle damaged but repairable) which was professionally repaired at the time.Interested parties should note that this vehicle was recorded as a category D insurance claim in 2007 (Vehicle damaged but repairable) which was professionally repaired at the time. The registration number (F100GT) is not included in the sale. The DVLA are currently processing the new registration document with an age related registration number, which will be sent to the buyer following the auction. The roof has now been professionally repaired and is working as it should.

1951 Bentley Mk. VI Standard Steel Saloon Transmission: manualMileage:89000The Mk. VI four-door standard steel sports saloon was the first post-war luxury car from Bentley. Announced in May 1946 and produced from 1946 to 1952, it was also the first car from Rolls-Royce with all-steel coachwork and the first complete car assembled and finished at their factory. These very expensive cars were a genuine success. These models had a shorter wheelbase chassis and the engine was a variant of the Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith of 1946 and, with the same standard steel body, became the cautiously introduced Silver Dawn of 1949. In 1952, both Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn and Bentley Mk. VI standard steel bodies were modified to incorporate a boot of about twice the size and the result became known as the R-Type Bentley. Mk. VI engines and chassis were modified to provide higher performance and sold to be bodied by selected coachbuilders as the first Bentley Continentals. This nice example was purchased in 2013 by the present owner from an ex-Army Captain who was stationed in Austin, Texas USA. The gentleman had used this car as his everyday runabout to and from his place of work! He had even taken the car on a great trip from Texas to New York, apparently not breaking down once! The car had been in the USA (Texas) for just over 30 years before returning to the UK, hence the lack of rust. The car has been well maintained since with £10,000 being spent over the last five years by the present owner including the fitting of a new fuel tank. It is presented in dark green/beige with dark maroon leather interior. It is fitted with a sunroof and the door cappings and all woodwork are in good condition throughout, as is the headlining and carpets. A great British classic, which exudes class and elegance.

Lot 255

1997 Mercedes-Benz SL320 Transmission: automaticMileage:67665Unveiled at the March 1989 Geneva Motor Show, the new Mercedes-Benz R129 Series SL range was beautifully engineered. Based around a two-door monocoque bodyshell, its sophisticated, all-round independent suspension (double-wishbone front/five-link rear) was augmented by a host of active and passive safety features including electronic stability control, ventilated ABS disc brakes, adaptive-damping shock absorbers, front airbags and an integral rollover bar that deployed in less than a third of a second if the car ever sensed an impending flip. Suitably cosseting, the convertible's impeccably built cabin consisted of a fully automated power hood and featured such advancements as memory seats, electric windows/mirrors and an adjustable steering column. Yet lurking beneath all the luxury and refinement was a performance orientated sports car. This example is presented in dark blue with cream leather interior which is probably the best combination in our view. It comes with electric seats, air-conditioning, built-in factory stereo, factory hardtop and a dark blue hood which is in good condition. The car comes with a good service history with the first five services carried out by Mercedes-Benz Main Dealers and the rest subsequently by specialists.

2007 AC Cobra by Dax Transmission: manualMileage:3300Founded in 1968, the Dax Cobra has steadily established itself as a much sought-after classic sports car in its own right. John Tojeiro, the original designer of the AC Ace chassis became a director of the company, and the car was renamed the Dax Tojeiro. The hugely charismatic Dax 427 has since remained the undisputed market leader for more than 25 years. The cars enduring popularity owes much to Dax's policy of continual product improvement and painstaking attention to detail. A philosophy that has clearly shaped every aspect of today's Dax 427. From its state-of-the-art technical specification, top quality composite body and sumptuous leather interior to its deep-dished Halibrand style wheels, trademark stainless steel side pipe exhausts and low, wide, purposeful stance. For many years now the clear customer favourite has been the small-block Chevrolet V8, perhaps due to its competitive price and wide choice of power outputs. It's no exaggeration to say that the car amazes all that go out in it, harnessing the power of the V8 with ease and providing levels of grip, composure and ride comfort that simply must be experienced to be believed. Even Jonathon Palmer was heard to say, Wow, that's just staggering! when taking the new demonstrator for a few laps around Brands Hatch, great praise indeed from an ex-Formula One driver. This superb AC Cobra by Dax looks fabulous in blue with the eponymous white stripe running down the centre from the front to the rear and is complemented by its cream/blue interior. The car is fitted with a rebuilt 350ci Chevrolet engine including Edelbrock Performer heads and manifold mated to a five-speed Tremec gearbox and power lock diff, which sounds fantastic as well as producing superb performance to match. This exciting sportscar comes with full weather equipment - Tonneau, hood and side screens, alarm and tracker. The comprehensive  history file contains old MoT test certificates, a cylinder block age certificate, British National Type Approval Certificate confirming it as a Dax Tojeiro, a copy of the Tojeiro assembly guide together with details and receipts of pretty much every component. This really is a head turner which drives and handles beautifully. Absolutely stunning!

1975 Jaguar SS100 By Birchfield Transmission: manualMileage:4177The Birchfield Sports is inspired by the famous Jaguar SS100 of the 1930s. Viewed by many as the best SS100 replicas in the world, The Birchfield Sports was originally created by Nick Topping as a one-off in 1982 before Clive Smart of Shapecraft in Northampton subsequently put it into production. Clive, a specialist car builder, had his roots in the traditional craft of working with steel and aluminium bodies over a timber frame. He wanted to produce a car which would use the tried and tested mechanical parts of the Jaguar XJ6 but built onto a body designed on the evocative lines of the beautiful Jaguar SS100. It was this concept which resulted in the Birchfield Sports. Due to the complexity of the design almost all of these cars were built by the professional engineers at the company itself. As only 22 Birchfields were ever built they rarely become available and are currently marketed at around or above the £100,000 mark. The body is hand-formed from 16-gauge aluminium over a chassis made from 40mm square steel tube with a rigid backbone. The running gear was sourced from the tried and tested Jaguar XJ6 and used the straight-six XK 4.2-litre engine which gives fabulous performance in such a lightweight car. The wheels are bolt-on 6.5Jx15 chrome wires with stainless steel spokes. This lovely example of this rare British built tribute to its more famous forbearer the Jaguar SS100, had its aluminium panels handmade by a group of ex-Aston Martin panel beaters and the result is stunning. Presented in red with tan leather interior, walnut dash and its automatic gearbox is mated to a 4.2 Jaguar engine, this truly is a great fun sports car. It has a black hood and has had only two previous owners in the last 37 years with the car having only covered a mere 4177 miles from when it was built. Aesthetically pleasing with a fabulous exhaust note from its twin rear protruding exhausts, this sports car will delight many both as a driver or a passenger, attracting many enviable glances at the same time!

1999 Ferrari 456 GTA Transmission: automaticMileage:44230The Ferrari 456 was the first front-engine Ferrari for 20 years and offered true performance touring for four occupants. The 456 GT was announced in September 1992, making its public show debut in Paris the following month. This was a positive and brave move by the company, as the prestige sports car markets were in recession after all the speculation and hype of the late eighties. However, they showed their commitment to broadening their range and to maintaining their position at the head of the list of the world's most desirable automobiles. The Pininfarina styled aluminium bodywork made for a pleasing design, particularly the modernised reflection of the fabled 365 GTB/4 'Daytona' with the long bonnet, featuring retractable headlight pods. Also inspired by the 'Daytona' was the design treatment of the rear of the cabin envelope and tail. Thus, although the shape was thoroughly modern, it contained retro trace elements to associate it with the company's history. 1965 Corvette Stingray Transmission: manualMileage:53106The Corvette Stingray had grown to be America's most popular sports car since its debut in 1953 but it was time for a change for the 1963-1967 models. Even the most superlative design grows whiskers after a decade, and Chevrolet chief Bill Mitchell along with stylist Larry Shinoda faced a tough task; to improve a living legend.  Not only did they succeed but their creation turned into a modern classic and they created the most collectible Corvette of them all, sending sales soaring to record levels. Seeds were planted by the Stingray Special racer and experimental XP-720 which displayed a smooth fastback profile and split back window. These and other styling details such as pivoting hidden headlights, doors cut into the roof and a swage line dip all wound up in the production Stingray. This striking example of the Corvette Stingray was manufactured in 1965 and imported into the U.K. in November 2014. It presents wonderfully in black with a black interior and gleaming chromework. This iconic convertible also benefits from a factory hardtop. Described by the enthusiast vendor as being both a head turner and enormous fun to drive this Stingray is being sold due to a lack of space. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document this MoT exempt Corvette is ready for some adrenaline-filled open top motoring.

Lot 4

Attributed to Sir George Harvey, PRSA (British, 1806-1876)The Curlers oil on canvas33 x 76.5 cm. (13 x 30 1/8 in.)Footnotes:ProvenanceWith Aitken & Dott, EdinburghPrivate collection of Gilbert McClung (former President of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club), thence by descentSir George Harvey is best known for his Scottish history painting and contemporary narrative scenes. Caw referred to his genre painting as 'dealing with everyday life of the people....which he loved to paint, he left work of historical value. They embody the feelings of a contemporary with the veracity of an eye-witness. (James L. Caw, Scottish Painting, Past & Present, 1620-1908, Edinburgh and London, 1908, p.113). Curling, one of Scotland's national sports, has been described as the 'Roarin' Game', with the roar coming from the noise of a granite stone as it travels over the ice, originally outside on frozen lochs. The exact origins of the game are unclear, but curling is widely believed to be one of the world's oldest team sports. The first rules were drawn up in Scotland, and they were formally adopted as the 'Rules in Curling' by the Grand Caledonian Curling Club, which was formed in Edinburgh in 1838 and became the sport's governing body. Four years later, following a demonstration of curling on the ballroom floor of Scone Palace near Perth by the Earl of Mansfield during a visit by Queen Victoria, the Queen was so fascinated by the game that in 1843 she gave permission for the Club's name to be changed to the Royal Caledonian Curling Club. This present work conveys the sense of drama, excitement and humour that can be enjoyed in a curling match. The players themselves reflect the whole spectrum of rural society. The scene also provides details such as the equipment used in the 1830's; such as the size of stones and how the crampets are attached to the player's shoes and galoshes with straps for example. The larger, original painting, now owned by The National Galleries of Scotland (acquired in 1995, NG 2641), proved to be immensely popular when it was exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1835. Harvey made a number of copies to meet demand. The whereabouts of three of these smaller copies are known; one which is attributed to Harvey and owned by the National Galleries of Scotland (acquired 1923, NG 1579), one that came up for sale with Sotheby's in September 1987, and lastly, the present work, which was acquired by Gilbert McClung (former President of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club) in the 1940's.McGlung gave permission for this painting to be reproduced for 'The Scottish Curler' Christmas card in 1965. The scene was printed on a four-page card, costing fifteen shillings per dozen, and advertised as 'the best action study of old-time curling, depicting as it does all the anxiety and keenness associated with playing of an important shot. The animation of the play springs from the picture to communicate with the viewer.' (The Scottish Curler, September 1965, vol.12 no.1, p.5).For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
