A unique collection of autographs and artwork by celebrities and notable figures including pop stars, artists, sports personalities, actors, authors, comedians, designers. The collection was put together by the late Karen Gammon and began life as her contribution to a Millennium Art Exhibition designed to raise money for a number of different charities (nominated by the celebrities). Karen sent a button to each celebrity and asked them to design a piece of art around it. Many of the designs are appropriate for the figure in question and represent the very thing they are famous for. The collection includes: J. K. Rowling (who has sketched three silhouettes flying around her button on broomsticks, one clearly being Harry Potter wearing a scarf); Mary Fedden RA (who has sketched a cat holding her button in a flower); Sir Paul McCartney (who has produced a humorous cartoon with the button as a nose); Dame Elizabeth Blackadder RA (who has used her buttons in a vibrant watercolour drawing of a lizard); Sir Stirling Moss (who has turned his button into a steering wheel); Grayson Perry RA (who has turned his buttons into figures being hanged); Mary Quant (who has incorporated her button into a sketch of a dress); Antony Gormley RA (who has drawn a tiny figure holding up his button); Lord Lichfield (self-portrait taking a photograph with the button as his camera); Nick Park (who has drawn a cartoon of Gromit with the button as his nose); Ronnie Barker (who has used his padlock button in a gag about his wife's handbag); Anthony Green RA (who has incorporated his button into a self-portrait); Phil Collins (who has turned his button into a drum kit); Sir Nicholas Serota (who has depicted his button on a Tate Modern plinth); Dick Francis (who has drawn a horse & jockey jumping over his button); Sir David Jason (who has doodled a wall with 'Del Boy woz 'ere'). The collection, which has been framed, comes with separate paperwork and consent forms relating to the acquisition of the autographs (often signed again), and even press/publicity photographs (many of which are again signed), together with numerous copies of a book that was produced to illustrate and explain the collection, 'Celebrity Button Art - An A to Z of Celebrity Mini Masterpieces', 2010 (with foreword by Bonnie Tyler). In her introduction, Karen states, 'Why art around a button you may ask? I needed a common starting point yet something that would inspire the creation of a mini masterpiece without directing or inhibiting the artist too much. I needed something that was seemingly insignificant by itself but would become an integral part of an imaginative spark of inspiration.' Collection of autograph letters contributed to the publication of 'First Memories of the Famous', a book compiled and edited by Jill Bernhardi, and illustrated by Mark Wilde, to raise funds for Macmillan in 1996. The collection includes politicians, actors, and sports personalities. The letters - some handwritten, some typewritten - describe an earliest memory. To include: Paddy Ashdown, Tony Benn, Tony Blair, Dame Barbara Cartland, Winston S Churchill MP, Petula Clark, Dame Judi Dench, Neil Kinnock, Joanna Lumley, Patrick Moore, Joanna Trollope, and others. Important and rare large collection of autographs of cricketers, late 1940's to 1970's, extending to over two thousand seven hundred signatures written on both sides of fifty-six thin beech leaves each in the shape of a cricket bat blade 280mm x 35mm and pinned together in the style of a swatch with a split cricket bat as front and rear covers, including Herbert Sutcliffe, Jim Laker, Len Hutton, Leslie Compton, Dennis Compton, Don Bradman, Alec Bedser, 1954 Canadian Touring team, Australian, New Zealand, West Indies, Indian, Pakistan, South Africa and MCC/England players.The collection was put together by James Toon with the help of a friend who was sports editor at The Times and his name (J.H.C.Toon) appears on the bottom edge of the rear cover. 1960 [FSK 842] MG A 1600 Roadster (Mk1), in Red, Tax Exempt, MOT Expired July 2018, 37,009 miles, 2 keys. The following information has been presented to us by H&H Auctions who previously sold the car in 2004 to its current registered keeper. This MGA was originally built at the MG works at Abingdon in 1960, for export to "rust free California". After its return to the UK, it was stripped down to the chassis in 1991. During this refurbishment, this classic British sports car was converted from left to right hand drive, the open body work was repainted, the interior trimmed in leather plus the carpets, tonneau cover and hood fabric all renewed. The original 1.6-litre 4-cylinder engine was subsequently rebuilt in 2000, the 4-speed manual gearbox was rebuilt in 2003 and then covered only 1,500 miles until sold by H&H Auctions in 2004. In 2004, when sold by H&H the condition of the chassis and body panels were said to be "very good with both paint work, in 'Chariot Red' and black and red trim reportedly also very good". The vehicle is now being offered at auction following the death of the registered keeper, on behalf of his Estate.
