1980 BMW E12 M535i, this car has undergone a full professional restoration early in 2022 it has cover approximately 148,000 miles over its life but has spent the past 10 years doing very little. We have extensive photos of the restoration work undertaken with a pack of information detailing the works completed.   The M535i was the first M badged sports saloon and was the first true M road car, the E12 paved the way for now infamous M badge. The power unit was the rare 3.5 litre M90 straight 6 engine, the same engine used in the legendary M1 but with a 12 valve single overhead cam head instead of the 24v twin cam head, it had a shorter stroke and bigger bore which made it noticeably more rev happy than the 3.5 litre M30 engine that most people assume is under the bonnet.

A rare opportunity to own a fine example of an iconic car. The Sunbeam Alpine has a wide following being the first car driven by James Bond played by Sean Connery in Dr No. The Alpine also has racing pedigree competing at Le Mans 24 Hours, winning the Thermal Inex of Efficiency in 1961. An eye catching British sports with reliable mechanics and sharp styling, the Alpine makes an interesting alternative to the MGB.This example painted in a rare colour Azure Blue, which was only used on the last Mark V's. Currently sitting on minilite wheels, the original wheels, tonneau and a hardtop are also available. SRR 256F being the final version of the Sunbeam Alpine, is more powerful and refined than the earlier Alpines.Overall the car is in good general condition, with solid bodywork. [NOEL-BAKER PHILIP]: (1889-1982) British politician and diplomat, Nobel Peace Prize winner, 1959. Noel-Baker also won a silver medal at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp and is the only person to have won an Olympic medal and received a Nobel Prize. STRONG KENNETH (1900-1982) British Major General of World War II who played a leading role in the negotiations for the unconditional surrender of Germany in 1945. An interesting typed manuscript signed, Kenneth Strong, Major General, eleven pages, 8vo, n.p., n.d. (January 1946), in German. The manuscript is of a speech made by Strong to introduce Philip Noel-Baker to German prisoners-of-war at Wilton Park and states, in part, 'I have the pleasant task of introducing you, the third course students at Wilton Park, to this evening's speaker, Minister of State Philip Noel-Baker. It is a particular pleasure for me because it gives me a good opportunity to attend the third course myself, as I did at the opening of Wilton Park and at the beginning of the second course…..When, on January 17 of this year, I opened the first course, and with it the Training Centre, on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs, which I head, we were optimistic…..But no one could know how it would develop. Of course, it is still too early to say that the Wilton Park experiment was a success, because it will not be possible to decide whether it was successful or not until years after you return to Germany. But I would like to say that the development of these six months has proved right for those of us who thought that the attempt should be made…..and that it also makes it clear to the German prisoners of war here and in all camps, what importance His Majesty's Government attaches to the construction work that is being done here…..Even if Mr. Noel-Baker were not a senior officer at the State Department, he would be one of the most suitable personalities to address you in Wilton Park. I know that part of your curriculum is the Projection of Britain, and Mr. Noel-Baker embodies much of the British political tradition and development that you have heard about this semester. First of all, his political stance: I was told that last semester, nothing impressed the students more than the fact that six Labour MPs gave a brain trust, who agreed that your socialism is not based on Karl Marx, but built on Jesus Christ. And you have….[been]……shown how alive the social conscience is in the English religious communities. Mr. Noel-Baker is in the same tradition. His domestic and foreign political views are based on his religious convictions…….This combination of religion and socialism, which is not so widespread in Germany….is not the only combination of qualities that are found in England and rarely found in Germany. Mr. Noel-Baker was a university professor before politics demanded all his time, but not an unworldly, so called apolitical lecturer, but a professor who was aware of the social obligations of universities……I am sure you will appreciate it if I tell you that while a student Mr. Noel-Baker was also president of the Cambridge Debating Society…..and president of the Cambridge Athletics Club and represented England at an Olympiad……But it's not just in sports that Mr. Noel-Baker has devoted himself to cultivating international relations. He has been his party's leading expert on foreign policy issues for years, and has deepened and expanded his knowledge and experience through his work with the League of Nations and the Disarmament Conference.' Signed by Strong to the verso of the final page, and signed a second time beneath an explanatory statement, 'Speech made in German by General Strong to German prisoners of war in the U.K. at the Wilton Park Training Centre in January 1946'. Some light overall age toning, a few stains, tears and areas of paper loss to the first page only, and with small staple holes to the upper left corner of each page, GWilton Park began on 12th January 1946 as part of an initiative inspired by Winston Churchill who, two years earlier, had called for Britain to help establish a democracy in Germany after World War II. Between January 1946 and June 1948 approximately 4,500 Germans were made to attend re-education classes there. Today Wilton Park exists as an executive agency of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office providing a global forum for strategic discussion.

MONTGOMERY B. L.: (1887-1976) British Field Marshal of World War II. Autograph Manuscript, unsigned (although with the 'signature' Field Marshal Montgomery incorporated into the title), four pages (separate leaves), folio, n.p. (Gstaad?), n.d. (February 1947). The manuscript is entitled 'Address by Field-Marshal Montgomery to the Gstaad Ski Club 16 Feb 1947', and states, in part, 'It is a great pleasure for me to be here tonight to present the "Montgomery Cup" for ski-jumping, and also to give the prizes for the various ski contests that have been held in Gstaad this week-end. I first came to Switzerland in 1903…..the object of that first visit was to learn French, but I also had my first lessons in winter sports……Since that time I have paid many visits to Switzerland and have become very fond of it; yours is a magnificent country, and one which produces a virile people of great character. Swiss history tells us of your long struggle for freedom; your early history especially is a long story of wars against aggression from outside. I have been reading how the Swiss Army defeated the Austrians at Morgarten in 1315 and at Sempach in 1386; I have also read how in the war against Germany in 1499 your Army defeated the German Army under Maximilian I at Dornach, which victory gained you your definite independence of the German Reich. In these and other wars your Swiss soldiers gained a high reputation for military skill and valour. So great were the military qualities of your young men that, even when the independence of the country had been won, they used to enlist in the armies of foreign powers and brought your country great glory on many battlefields. However, the Swiss Government finally decided that the hiring of Swiss fighting men by foreign powers was likely to endanger the home country and must cease. Since then Switzerland has enjoyed peace, and has observed a strict neutrality in the case of wars between two or more of her neighbours…..In your early days you suffered greatly from foreign aggression, and there are probably few nations who understand better than you do the distress that has been brought about in many European countries as a result of the late war……As a British soldier, I thank you for the splendid way in which you looked after our officers and men who escaped to your country from prisoner-of-war camps in enemy countries…..Many nations that have been drawn into war have gained much benefit from the neutrality of Switzerland…..Our two nations would seem to have much in common. We British are an independent and an individual people; our long freedom from oppression has made us self-reliant and our one passionate belief is in the liberty of the individual to go his own way……All nations today are grappling with the problem of how to reconcile this liberty of the individual with the demands of collective good. In Switzerland you seem to have reached a satisfactory solution to that problem and one which suits the nation…..To Switzerland and its people, I wish prosperity and happiness in the years that lie ahead'. Two small file holes to the upper left corner of each page and with some light overall age wear, about VG
