Lot 1145

Offered is one of the earliest examples of Roy Weatherby's custom rifles. It utilized the early pre-J.P. Sauer FN action and is stamped "Weatherby South Gate, Calif.". Barrel is stamped ".257 Roberts" and was manufactured without sights. Barre and frame are done in the high polish deep, rich blue. Cannot find a visible serial number. Sports sling eyes and early Weatherby red waffle pad. The Claro-walnut stock is very dark with beautiful grain and does show some finish loss. 90% original high polish blue on floorplate and trigger guard with some age freckling. 85-90% original blue on barrel and frame. Lot 1264

Factory letter states that this revolver was shipped on November 27, 1886 in a three gun shipment as listed to Simmons Hardware Company in St. Louis, Missouri. Stocks are not listed which is not uncommon as most aftermarket stocks were supplied by a dealer. It was shipped as a 4" nickel plated gun that now sports an excellent pair of original Mother of Pearl grips. These scarce Sheriff's models were manufactured sans any ejector rod or lanyard ring. The etched panel is original and mostly readable. Revolver retains approximately 50-60% original factory nickel. The balance blending with grey patina giving the appearance of a homogeneous full nickel plated gun. There appears to have been an inscription on the back strap at one time that has been removed but now blends with the shiny nickel. Indexes perfectly both single and double action. Strong clean bore. The combination of Sheriff's model and etched panel along with the pearl grips result in an extremely handsome and scarce big bore, short barrel, Western shipped revolver popular on the frontier. A potent caliber in a small package. Serial Number-17297; Manufacturer-Colt; Model-1878; Caliber-.44w.c.f.; Barrel Length-4"; FFL Status-Antique;

Lot 1283

Gun (A) is an engraved Smith & Wesson .38 single action spur trigger revolver. This is referred to as the Second Model Second Issue round barrel with top rib patent dates, factory nickel finish, five shot, spur trigger and sports a pair of period two piece ivory grips. Appears factory engraved. The engraving on this gun appears to be the work of L.D. Nimschke with the large flowing scroll seen on page 40 in The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson. The cylinder retains approximately 30-40% original nickel, balance blending. The grip straps have greyed-out. Frame and barrel retain approximately 80% original nickel. Engraving is sharp. Grips are excellent. Indexes and locks up perfectly. Strong rifling but does have some minor black powder abrasion. These were manufactured from 1877 to 1891. Nice collector lot of two extremely handsome all original turn of the century Smith & Wesson's. Gun (B) is a small five shot double action top break revolver with a short barrel and is referred to as a "bicycle gun" and .32 safety hammerless Second Model with the rare "2". Manufactured 1902-1909. This gun has the round ribbed barrel, high polish factory blue finish, T-shaped barrel latch with knurling and is fitted with a pair of period genuine Mother of Pearl grips. Mother of Pearl grips are excellent with no cracks and only moderate age chipping. Perfect action. Strong bore with some frosting. Serial Number-159995, 3119; Manufacturer-S&W; Model-Safety Hammerless, Top Break; Caliber-.32, .38 S&W; Barrel Length-2", 3 - 1/4"; FFL Status-Curio & Relic;

Lot 1300

A quick call to Dr. Richard and we were informed that this rifle was originally shipped as an 1874 musket. There was no serial number under the barrel, so it was obviously period converted to a sporting rifle during the era using an extra barrel (factory proper) stamped "Sharps Rifle Company Bridgeport Conn.". Has the "Old Reliable" stamp on top barrel flat. Breech is stamped "Cal. 45" and fits a .45-70 perfectly. The breech measurement is 2-9/16" on the side of the barrel which indicates a bigger (longer) casing length which is probably a 45-90. Patina on the barrel matches perfectly to the frame. Has C. Sharps patent "Sept. 13, 1848" on left side. Features single trigger. Appears to have the original factory buttstock with sling swivel. Sports the proper style two screw walnut forend with slight Schnabel. Wood color and finish matches perfectly with the buttstock. Forend has a 4" repaired crack on right side. Right side of buttstock has a 3" grain separation. Wood to metal fit is perfect Left side of buttstock has the same 3" grain separation. Rear sight slot cut now sports a Springfield type military rear sight that utilizes the original slot. Front sight is period adjustable sight with tube and target post inside. Action is perfect and strong, clean bore. Has an all matching homogeneous patina that would lead you to believe it left the factory just like this and was most likely a factory alteration to a sporting rifle. All parts are aged in the same manner and tone. This rifle has lots of character in excellent shape. While the rear sight may be accurate, a sporting sight would be more fitting. Serial Number-C52398; Manufacturer-Sharps; Model-Sporting; Caliber-.45-70; Barrel Length-30"; FFL Status-Antique;
