Martin, and containing snapshots of crew, the ship and places visited, including New York, Charleston, South Sea Islands and Australia, largely uncaptioned and corner-mounted as multiples to a page, the majority approx. 5 x 8cm but a small number larger, contemp. limp cloth, rubbed, oblong folio, together with a long eleven-page typed letter from Sergeant Martin aboard HMS Lothian dated 30th December 1944, giving an account of his recent adventures in New York and Panama, plus two further albums relating to Martin including Australian and Military interest, plus an assortment of ephemera, including some sports team photographs, several featuring Martin in RAF records, Gloucester AFC (a carton)

A silver & enamel Aston Villa Schools’ Charity Cup winner’s medal season 1913-14, the obverse with the Aston Villa FC club crest and motto in enamel, the reverse inscribed 1913-14, ASTON VILLA SCHLS CHARITY CUP, WINNERS, CHURCH Rd. YARDLEY, Wm. HOLLAND . The Aston Villa [Schools’] Charity Cup has a long history. It was first contested in 1886-87 and still continues today. The tournament is open to U-15 teams from the Birmingham Schools Sports Federation with the final played at Villa Park in May. This winner’s medal was won by William Holland in season 1913-14. He was a pupil of Church Road Council School in Yardley which is now known as Yardley Primary School, an institution that celebrated its centenary last year. Church Road won the competition again in 1921 & 1924

Neil Leifer photographic prints lots 682 to 685. Neil Leifer was born in New York City in 1942. He is generally considered to be the greatest sports photographer in the world whose work has appeared chiefly in Sports Illustrated and Time magazines. Leifer collaborated with the noted author Thomas Hauser on a book about Muhammad Ali entitled Memories. Hauser supplied the text and Leifer the photographs for this fine work. As part of this project a series of limited edition photographic prints were produced, each image signed by Muhammad Ali and by Neil Leifer. Neil Leifer (photographer born 1942). MUHAMMAD ALI V SONNY LISTON I: “THE PHANTOM PUNCH”, MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, 25 FEBRUARY 1964. Perhaps the most famous image in boxing sports photography, depicting Ali standing over Liston and yelling at him to “get up and fight”, a colour photographic print, small version, numbered 86 of 350, signed to the lower margin in ink by Neil Leifer, mounted together with the signature of Muhammad Ali on white card and with printed message “With Best Wishes”, the image 26 by 25cm., 10 1/4 by 10in., framed & glazed; sold together with a certificate of authenticity signed by Thomas Hauser 12 February 1996; and a later letter of authenticity signed by Thomas Hauser and dated 9 March 2007 confirming that the Ali’s signature mounted together with print No.86 was signed in his presence (3). The blow that ended the match became known as “the phantom punch,” so named because most people at ringside did not see it. Even Ali was unsure as to whether or not the punch connected, as footage from the event shows Ali asking his entourage “Did I hit him?” after the match
A Photograph Album, containing numerous personal photographs depicting the life of Charles Wilfred Hext of the Devonshire Regiment when he was stationed in India circa 1905 -1909. The photographs and postcards begin with his arrival in Port Said 1st March 1905 and show his life at work, but mostly at play , including parties, inter-company sports, tiger and other hunting scenes, together with Programmes of Entertainment etc., bound in black cloth.
