Amilcar was born from the genius of 4 men : André Morel and Edmond Moyet for the engineering part of the venture and Emile Aker and Joseph Lamy behind the financial helm. André Morel worked at Le Zèbre and Edmont Moyet was a colleague of Jules Salomon at Citroën and worked on the 5CV project. He also worked on a cyclecar project from home. He then met Morel but budget was on a shoestring and did not evolve until Morel introduced him Emile Akar and Joseph Lamy who were ranked fairly high in the Le Zèbre concern. They soon agreed to finance André Morel’s cyclecar project and Amilcar (an acronym with the names of Emile Akar and Joseph Lamy) was thus born in 1921. In 1923, Amilcar introduced the CGS which was born out of extensive racing experience. The CS engine was bored out to 1074cc, the cylinder head was all new and featured a reinforced camshaft and larger valves. With brakes on all four wheels, the Amilcar was a very capable machine and its price tag was directly aimed at a richer clientele. The CGS is probably the most famous of all sports cyclecars. Aside from being hot on Bugatti’s trail, it also became a household name thanks to the unfortunate death of the famous American actress Isadora Duncan whose scarf got caught by wheel spokes…In the hands of the same owner for the last 14 years, our CGS is obviously eligible to numerous events such as Le Mans Classic, in which it has already participated several times. It is in perfect working and is ready to race.
