GAGARIN YURI: (1934-1968) Russian Cosmonaut, the first man to travel in space, 1961. T.L.S., Yuri Gagarin, one page, 4to, n.p., n.d., to the Voluntary Sports Organisation Lokomotiv, Swimming section, in Czechoslovakia, in Russian. Gagarin sends his comrade his thanks for their congratulations and continues to send his best wishes for new and greater success to the sportsmen of the club. In concluding he proclaims `Long live the indestructible friendship between the Czechoslovak and Russian nations!` A 3 x 4.5 photograph of Gagarin in a head and shoulders pose wearing various medals and awards has been neatly affixed in the upper left corner. Some very light overall creasing and a small, minor area of paper thinning at the left edge, not affecting the text or signature, about VG

MOSS STIRLING: (1929- ) British Motor Racing Driver. A.L.S., Stirling, on one side of a picture postcard showing a woodland spa, Belgium, n.d. (c.1950/51), to Miss. D. Jagger. Moss informs his friend that he has `just finished going round and round this circuit at Spa (14 km). It`s very fast & a little dangerous, but most entertaining` adding that he had to wake at 3am and is feeling `a little shagged out`. In concluding he states that he will be going to Germany tomorrow, and then to Italy. Together with a second A.L.S., Stirling, on one side of a picture postcard of the Hotel Lutetia, Paris, n.d. (c.1950/51), also to Miss. D. Jagger. Moss announces `It looks to me as though the records will be more difficult than we thought....we are due to have a bash today but the weather is against us.` Also including a printed 8vo menu card for the British Automobile Racing Club`s Annual Dinner Dance at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, 3rd November 1950, signed by Moss in ink to a clear area of the cover and also bearing a couple of other signatures. Some light creasing and minor staining, G, 3 At the time of writing these letters Moss was in Europe testing Jaguar sports cars. His first Grand Prix race came in 1951 at the Bremgarten Circuit in Switzerland and in 1955 he secured his first win at the British Grand Prix.

A rare Tin Lizzy car by Arnold An early post-war unusual West German made “99 4/10 pure tin” dull yellow and black tinplate sports car carrying 4 carefree youngsters well dressed to enjoy a day out. Suitably emblazoned with innocent graffiti, the car is driven by a hand-held mechanical control unit via a wire-bound cable. GC, some rusting, windscreen largely missing, control unit inoperative. Engine replaced with larger PB engine due to lack of power. Original engine number stamped on replacement. One of only 39 four seater`s made. Full restoration required. A 1974 TRIUMPH TR6 SPORTS LHD, registration number MCY 84M. 2498cc. Manual. Chassis number CF20588U. Re-imported from California in 1990 and running on twin carburetors this solid motorcar has had some improvements including a rebuilt engine ((unleaded, 2002), coil over shock absorbers, stainless steel exhaust and reconditioned gearbox. Described by the vendor as "a car to drive" rather than a show winner it no doubt offers good value in the British sports car market. V5. Carmarthen vendor (since 1999).

A 1939 ATALANTA FIXED HEAD "PILLARLESS" SALOON (2 DOOR), registration number FLY 862. Chassis L1018. a rare example of this short lived British sports car made at Staines, Middlesex. Early cars had four cylinder Gough engines which were powerful but later cars had V12 Lincoln Zephyr engines which were much less stressed. Such an engine was fitted to this car originally but was replaced with an EXWD 20/25 Rolls Royce engine and gearbox from about 1932 which is fitted to this day. In the same ownership for the past 40 years the car was purchased at a London Auction in 1971 at which time a list of modifications was provided which is still available. Requiring restoration the car nevertheless appears basically complete and a good basis for judicious expenditure to produce an example of a fine looking and very unusual British motor car.
