1950 Bentley Mark VI Standard Steel Sports Saloon Reg.no. 946 YUN Chassis no. B188HR Engine no. B94H The Mk.VI Bentley arrived in the marketplace during a time of austerity, with Britain still on rationing and suffering financially. These early cars were powered by a 4.2 litre straight six engine which later was enlarged to 4.5 litre. The performance, even for a big car, was excellent. They were the first post-war luxury car from Bentley and were a genuine success despite the economic situation. These cars today represent excellent value for money and are becoming more and more desirable. This car is in good all round useable condition, and has travelled very few miles since its last MOT recently expired. It is understood that the car was restored in around 1994. It would be a real shame to use this as a basis for a Mk.VI special, however it would be ideal. It is sold with V5c. Bidding is taking place on our sister site i-bidder.com Click here to bid

1935 Morris 8 Sports Tourer Reg.no. BMY 687 Chassis no. 13194 Engine no. 7856 This Morris 8 was purchased by the current vendor as a ‘garage find’ in rolling chassis form. An extensive restoration followed, including rear chassis repair, due to corrosion. A brand new engine was fitted and the gearbox was changed to four-speed. The axles, brakes and steering box have all been overhauled. A ‘Special’ stainless steel body was constructed, new seats were made and a new hood and tonneau. PIERCE EGAN Sporting Anecdotes, London 1825 - Printed in London.1832. 8vo in 25 weekly parts. Binding: Handsome three quarter red morocco, gilt edges. "Embracing the turf, the chase, the ring and the stage, interspersed with original memories of sporting men". Apart from the topics mentioned above, this also dealt with various other sports including cricket, wrestling, archery, sailing etc. Pierce Egan (1772-1849), born in London of Irish parentage, was the father of modern sports journalism starting with Boxing. This he termed "The Sweet Science" in an era of bare knuckle fights of no fixed length - when it was neither sweet nor scientific. He started up Bells Life in London and the Sporting Chronicle, the first newspaper to offer substantial coverage of sporting events. This survived from 1822 to 1886 when it was taken over by the Sporting Life. After an existence of 139 years this in turn merged in 1998 with the Racing Post, whose all round sports coverage makes it a worthy third Millennium descendent of Bell's Life. Amongst the papers for which Pierce Egan wrote in the 1820s was the Weekly Dispatch. This was to be renamed the Sunday Dispatch and in the last years of its life - it closed in 1962 - Tony Sweeney provided an Irish racing column. Acquired from George J Hoyle of Beveley Hills, California. - Book of Sportsa nd MIrror of Life, London 1832, red morocco - J.C. Reid Bucks and Bruises, Pierce Egan and Regency England, London 1971, dust jackets (3) Provenance: The estate of Tony Sweeney

This copy would seem to have been without the letterpress title for some time, perhaps even bound without, as the offsetting onto the verso of the additional title is that from the Preface.
