Original vintage advertising poster for Army & Navy department store in Victoria Street, near Victoria Station in London with: A real Gardening department - Army & Navy Stores - Everything for everyone. Printed at the Curwen Press. Army & Navy Stores was a department store group in the United Kingdom, which originated as a co-operative society for military officers in the nineteenth century. The society became a limited company in the 1930s and purchased a number of independent stores during the 1950s and 1960s. In 1973 the Army and Navy Stores group was acquired by House of Fraser. From 2005 onwards the remaining Army & Navy stores (the flagship store located on Victoria Street in London and the three others in Maidstone, Camberley, and Chichester) were refurbished and re-branded as House of Fraser stores. House of Fraser itself was acquired by Icelandic investment company, Baugur Group, in late 2006, and then by Sports Direct on the 10 August 2018. The Victoria Street department store now trades as House of Fraser Victoria. Situated within the City of Westminster, to the south of St. James's Park, it is the only department store to trade in the locality. Each of its four selling-floors holds a broad range of merchandise including clothing, accessories and cosmetics, furnishing, household and electrical goods. 'World of Food', a new food hall concept in House of Fraser stores (introduced at Birmingham in 2003), was opened on the Ground Floor to coincide with the store's relaunch under the 'House of Fraser' name.Year of printing: 1950, country of printing: UK, designer: Unknown, dimensions (cm): 76x101. Lithograph re-issue advertising poster Bugatti by Studio Editions, Paris. Stylish Art Deco image in yellow and black for this classic T46 Bugatti car designed by French illustrator and artist, Rene Vincent (1879-1936). Licence plate 157 RD8. Good condition, light staining and a small tear on margin. Rene Vincent (1879–1936) was a French illustrator who was active in the 1920s-1930s. He worked in an Art Deco style and became famous for his poster designs, Vincent had a particular design style of distorting perspective and dynamism. He was influential in the Art Deco movement in the period between the two world wars. Vincent studied at the Ècole des Beaux-Arts, at first he studied architecture, he then changed to graphic arts and ceramics courses. He was also an illustrator for La Vie Parisienne, The Saturday Evening Post, L'Illustration and Fantiso, most of his contributions to these magazines were fashion illustrations. He created a plethora of advertisements for Bugatti, Peugeot, Michelin, and Shell Oil Company. His most recognizable work is the 1925 Porto Ramos Pinto poster. Occasionally he went by the pseudonym Rageot. Vincent was a great lover of cars, so as a result he was one of the first French citizens to have a driver's license and was also one of the first Parisians to have a garage built onto his house. Automobiles Ettore Bugatti was a French car manufacturer of high-performance automobiles, founded in 1909 in the then-German city of Molsheim, Alsace by the Italian-born industrial designer Ettore Bugatti. The cars were known for their design beauty and for their many race victories. Famous Bugattis include the Type 35 Grand Prix cars, the Type 41 "Royale", the Type 57 "Atlantic" and the Type 55 sports car. The death of Ettore Bugatti in 1947 proved to be the end for the marque, and the death of his son Jean Bugatti in 1939 ensured there was not a successor to lead the factory. No more than about 8,000 cars were made. The company struggled financially, and released one last model in the 1950s, before eventually being purchased for its airplane parts business in 1963. In the 1990s, an Italian entrepreneur revived it as a builder of limited production exclusive sports cars. Today, the name is owned by the Volkswagen Group.Year of printing: c. 1970s, country of printing: France, designer: Rene Vincent, dimensions (cm): 100x75.
