2004 Aston Martin Vanquish to S-Specification Transmission: automaticMileage:19700The Vanquish is widely accepted as being one of the most important cars developed by Aston Martin and heavily influenced the direction of the company's line-up of sports cars in recent times. So much so, in fact, that the Newport Pagnell factory underwent an extensive refurbishment to accommodate it, gaining a new assembly line, paint shop, rolling road and water test facility. The genius that is Ian Callum, who developed the DB7, then turned his attention on the new Vanquish using a bonded aluminium tub as the core as well as carbon fibre struts welded to the backbone. All new engine management systems were used with drive-by-wire throttle control and a six-speed manual gearbox with an electro-hydraulic change mechanism matched to a hugely powerful six litre, V12 powerplant. It was an instant success and was the obvious choice for the nation's favourite secret agent. Sadly, it was the last Aston Martin to be built at Newport Pagnell with all future cars moving to Gaydon and using more production line-based build systems. The near-perfect and bespoke example offered here today was ordered at the Park Lane showrooms of Aston Martin by a gentleman from Surrey and registered in March 2004. It was fully equipped with all the latest extras including Connolly leather and Wilton carpeting throughout costing the princely sum of £165,000. The car presents with a full service history with, notably, a new and uprated 'S' clutch fitted in 2013. The mileage at that time was 15,683 however, the vehicle had very little use since that time as it changed hands to the present owner in March 2014 with the mileage showing just 15,753. During the current ownership it has been looked after regardless of cost and always serviced by accredited Aston Martin specialists and with the full-service history maintained. The current mileage is still only 19,700 so, amazingly, this has been kept and maintained regardless of cost, and benefits from a full-service history with just two recorded owners. Additionally, we are led to believe that the first owner always kept the car garaged as part of his private collection as indeed has the current owner. A new set of tyres were fitted in April 2020 with such a low mileage, this represents a well-deserved place in the annals of Aston Martin history as not only one of the last cars ever to leave its spiritual home but uprated to S-Specification and kept in truly remarkable condition throughout.
1960 Triumph TR3A Transmission: manualMileage:55883The Triumph TR3 was built between 1955 and 1962 and was usually supplied as an open two-seater, although an occasional rear seat and bolt-on steel hardtop were available as extras. It was powered by a 1991cc engine which initially produced 95bhp increasing to 100bhp at 5000rpm. The four-speed manual transmission could be supplemented by an overdrive unit on the top three ratios electrically operated and controlled by a switch on the dash. In 1956, the front brakes changed from drum to disc becoming the first British series production car to do so. Because of these disc brakes, the TR3 became known for its superior braking ability, making it an autocross favourite.Presented in red with a desirable white hardtop, this magnificent example of the iconic British sportscar boats just four owners in its entire life. Offered with a large history file which contains information going back to 1985 when the second owner, a Mr. Howard purchased the car requiring full restoration. The engine was rebuilt with the crankshaft re-ground and new liners and pistons fitted, along with unleaded valve seats with new valves and new springs. An electronic ignition was fitted, and the gearbox completely overhauled with a new clutch for good measure. The front suspension was updated and braided hoses fitted alongside new side screens rebuilt with a matching hood and tonneau. The third owner fitted a front anti-roll bar, and all the suspension bushes were polybushed alongside narrow V-belt pullies (less friction) and alternator. The car then took part in numerous rallies such as the TR Register Pyrenees tour in 1995 and the Millennium Tour in 2000.In 2012, the car was completely stripped and painted by Bristol Classic & Sports Cars in Clevedon. RMS were commissioned by the vendor to complete £14,000 of work which included reconditioning the original gearbox, starter motor, reconditioning the Dellorto carbs and refurbishing the original radiator, installing a new fan, thermos switch, coolant transfer pipes and alloy expansion bottle. Head and sump gaskets were fitted as was a rear main oil seal and water pump. In addition, the car benefitted from a new coil and HT leads, new adjustable suspension dampers and coil over springs, a modern alternator, new battery, battery isolator, electronic ignition and modern headlights.We are informed that the car drives really well as a result of this work. It is light and highly sensitive to driver input. The 650kg weight and twin overhead cam Lotus head and refurbed Dellorto carb's transform the Ford 1558cc engine's performance, while the new suspension units do the same for the handling. Not quite 'blistering' by today's standard, but surprisingly quick and precise. A unique driving experience. You have to get used to people taking photos/selfies and answering questions!
1929 MG PA to Q-Type Specification Transmission: manualMileage:2755The MG Q-Type is a racing car produced by MG in 1934. The chassis was based on the one used on the MG K3 but was narrower and used N-Type axles. The engine used the cylinder block from the P-Type but with a special crankshaft to bring the capacity down to 746cc by reducing the stroke. A high-pressure Zoller supercharger was fitted giving a boost to 2.5 atmospheres and allowing the engine to produce 113bhp at 7200rpm. A sprint version was also made with output increased to 146bhp which at nearly 200bhp per litre this figure was higher than any other racing engine in the world at that time and equated to over 200bhp per 1,000cc! To add stability at the inevitable high speeds, it was decided to increase the wheelbase and track on the basis that the extra power would more than compensate for the additional weight. The wheelbase was made the same as on the K3, and N-Type axles of 3' 9 track, with special 12 brake drums, were used.Regarded as the ultimate traditional overhead cam-engined MG Midget, it is thought only eight were made (Michael Sedgwick states nine) as the car was expensive at £550"“£650, and the rigid-axle chassis had difficulty in dealing with the power of the engine. In general layout the car followed the 1934 MG K3 very closely and inside elevation it is not easy to tell the two models apart. All eight Q-Types were originally fitted with very attractive open two-seat sports racing coachwork with a sloping, pointed tail and outside exhaust.The final track testing of the Q-Type was undertaken by Bill Everitt and on Whit Monday, 1934, he broke the Class H Brooklands Mountain lap record at 69.97mph, first time out. He then competed at a Donington Park race meeting, achieving a first place and two seconds. At Brooklands on August 1st, he broke the Standing Kilometer and Standing Mile records at 69.75 and 79.88mph respectively - this was a direct measure of the improvement of the Q-Type since these records were taken from E.R. Hall who had set them the previous year in an MG J4. In October 1934, Everitt raised the Mountain Lap record to 75.58mph in the Q-Type and the Standing Kilometer and Mile records to the remarkable figures of 75.42 and 85.59mph.The Q-Type bodied MG PA on offer today is presented in French Racing Blue and we ascertain from the large history file it was subject to a full photographic restoration in 2007. In stunning order and boasting the Volumex supercharger, during our vendors tenure the car has undergone significant expenditure to create what is a fabulous recreation of the Q-Type racer showing a body work akin to the days racing at Brooklands. This included the blower, the bespoke external handbrake, quick fill fuel caps , turned metal dash with dual chronograph clocks, Brooklands aero screens, aluminium foot plates and aluminium and rubber mats in the footwell. The bonnet straps and coachwork are as new likewise the trim sitting on wire wheels with bespoke tonneau and a fabulous fantail exhaust.Eligible we would believe for hill climbs and sprints, this would be a great drivers car and certainly one of the best looking examples in the paddock. 2003 Bentley Azure Performance Final Series Transmission: automaticMileage:15400The Bentley Azure was launched in 1995 and was based on the platform of the Continental R which had been launched in 1991. The Azure intended to both convey a sense of presence and allow for comfortable seating of four adult passengers. Power came from the company's stalwart 6.75 litre, V8 featuring a single intercooled turbocharger. The gearbox was a General Motors sourced four-speed automatic unit with the Azure capable of 0-60mph in an impressive 6.1 seconds. Owing to the limited space at Bentley's Crewe factory, the Azure was designed and manufactured by Pininfarina, significantly adding to the vehicle's production cost.One of the rarest of Azure developments was the 'Final Series Performance' version, only 62 examples of which were completed towards the end of production during 2002/2003. The 'FSP' was based on the Bentley Azure Mulliner, which came with an engine up-rated to produce 420bhp, suitably stiffened suspension, and various other improvements. 1999 Maserati Quattroporte IV Evoluzione (3.2 litre) Transmission: manualMileage:23342Maserati launched its first Quattroporte back in 1963 and has continued to make a version of this luxury four-door sports saloon ever since. The fourth-generation model came out in 1994 and was the first Maserati to be produced under new owners Fiat, who had bought this illustrious Italian marque from Alejandro de Tomaso in 1993. An evolution of the Biturbo platform, the Quattroporte IV was styled by Marcello Gandini (of Lamborghini Miura and Countach fame) and featured his signature slashed rear wheel arch design which had first been seen on the Countach and later on the Maserati Shamal. Initially powered by the 280bhp twin-turbo 24-valve 2.8 V6 from the Ghibli, the Quattroporte IV got the flagship Shamal engine in 1996, a 336bhp twin-turbo 3.2 V8 which gave it blistering performance, 0-60 in 5.8 seconds and a top speed of 168mph. A Getrag six-speed manual gearbox came as standard, but a more town-friendly ZF four-speed automatic was also available as an option.This excellent, rare right hand drive, 1999 Maserati Quattroporte IV has only covered 23,400 miles from new which is supported by comprehensive service history. 1972 MGB GT Mk. II Transmission: automaticMileage:74276The MGB was a revelation to the British sports car industry moving away, as it did from body-on-frame models to a more modern monocoque system of construction. This resulted in welcome weight savings, reduced manufacturing costs and far better handling. The sporting coupé, designed by Pininfarina, was only offered in GT form after its sister 'roadster' variant launched 1962. Originally powered by a three-bearing crank engine, this was swiftly replaced by a five-bearing unit some two years into production. Swift performance figures, a sporting pedigree and refined styling lines. The interior was very roomy in fact with space allegedly for four and a large rear compartment, with if the rear seats were folded down, allowed for a very roomy luggage platform. The options list was equally interesting with a heater costing £14, overdrive at £60 and seatbelts at £3 each!Owned for the last 10 years by one man, an early full engine-out restoration took place under his guidance. The new red coachwork has clearly been very well restored and, at the same time, the engine and automatic gearbox was stripped down and rebuilt. The dashboard has been replaced with an upgraded burr-walnut unit which sets of the lustrous paintwork well. 2000 Mercedes-Benz SL320 Transmission: automaticMileage:63042Unveiled at the March 1989 Geneva Motor Show, the new Mercedes-Benz R129 Series SL range was beautifully engineered. Based around a two-door monocoque bodyshell, its sophisticated, all-round independent suspension (double-wishbone front/five-link rear) was augmented by a host of active and passive safety features including electronic stability control, ventilated ABS disc brakes, adaptive-damping shock absorbers, front airbags and an integral rollover bar that deployed in less than a third of a second if the car ever sensed an impending flip. Suitably cosseting, the convertible's impeccably built cabin consisted of a fully automated power hood and featured such advancements as memory seats, electric windows and mirrors and an adjustable steering column. Yet lurking beneath all the luxury and refinement was a performance orientated sports car.This lovely example of this popular and final R129 model is presented in silver with a black leather interior. 1987 Toyota MR2 Mk. I Transmission: manualMileage:84000The 1987 Toyota MR2 is a sports car that was part of the first generation of the MR2 series, which stands for 'Midship Runabout two-seater.' It was manufactured by Toyota from 1984 to 1989. The MR2 was known for its compact size, rear-wheel-drive layout, and mid-engine configuration, which contributed to its agile handling and sporty driving experience. They were supplied with 1587cc four-cylinder engines and came with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic. The MR2 featured a distinctive wedge-shaped design with pop-up headlights, giving it a sleek and aerodynamic appearance. The interior of the MR2 was driver-focused and had a sporty feel, with bucket seats, a centre-mounted instrument cluster, and a compact three-spoke steering wheel. 1936 Daimler E20 Saloon Transmission: manualMileage:80498The E20 was manufactured between 1935 and 1939. It offered the choice of a coachbuilt saloon, Sports Saloon, Fixedhead Coupé and Drophead Coupé bodies on a notably stiff box section chassis that featured integral lubrication and jacking systems. The model was powered by an OHV straight-six engine with output of 19.3hp - sufficient for a top speed of almost 70mph. This was mated to a four-speed pre-selector gearbox via Daimler's patented fluid flywheel. Suspension was by semi-elliptic springs and beam axles all round and braking by Girling servo-assisted drums. The total production of E20s was some 873, of which some 35 are known to have survived, making it a rare car today. Daimlers were the sole royal appointment cars up to 1950 and this magnificent 1936 example is very much in this tradition.Originally registered on 29th July 1936, according to the current owner, this Daimler E20 has only had two owners throughout its 80 years on the road and has covered the remarkably low mileage of 80,498. The vendor purchased the car in the early 1980's from the deceased estate of the first owner Mr Daubney, who became the chairman of the Daimler and Lanchester Owners Club. As part of a wedding hire fleet, it has been registered on the V5C registration document with a couple of other keepers but has been in his ownership since its purchase. The vendor is a very knowledgeable classic car enthusiast, and he has looked after the car exceedingly well, keeping it in a warm, heated environment. 1972 Ford Escort Mk. I to Mexico Specification Transmission: manualMileage:58703There was, in the early days of the Ford Escort, a higher performance version for rallies and racing. The Mk. I Escorts became very successful as a rally car and eventually went on to become one of the most successful rally cars of all time. The Ford works team was practically unbeatable in the late 1960's and early 1970's; arguably the Escort's greatest victory was in the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally being driven by Finnish legend Hannu Mikkola. This gave rise to the famous Escort Mexico special edition road versions in honour of the rally car. The Mexico was built at Ford's Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) facility located at the Aveley Plant in South Essex. As well as higher performance engines and sports suspension, these models featured strengthened bodyshells, making them an ideal model for rallying. Today, Mk. I Escorts are still popular in the amateur rally scene. This lovely Ford Escort left the Ford factory in 1972 as an 1100L. Between 2010 and 2015 it was totally stripped down and rebuilt by Stephen Tilburn, the owner of Hilton Gott Volvo in Downham Market, Norfolk. The body was restored adding all the Type 49 additions bringing it up to Mexico specification and then resprayed Le Mans Green by the Hilton Gott Bodyshop. Mechanically it has been fully uprated, the 1600cc crossflow engine has been lightened and balanced also to Mexico specification and fitted with a sports exhaust manifold and exhaust system. The suspension has been uprated and it has an English rear axle and anti-tramp bars. It has Ford RS style wheels with Yokohama AO48 low profile tyres. The black interior received the same treatment being fitted with Ford RS style Beta cloth contour seats, a RS steering wheel and RS six dial instrument clocks. With the rising prices of the original Escort RS's and the Mexico, this is an opportunity to buy an Escort to the same specification at half the price.
1965 Ford Mustang Fastback Transmission: manualMileage:65The Ford Mustang was the brainchild of Lee Iacocca and was branded as the first 'Pony Car', it was born out of a need to compete with the flood of European sports cars coming into the USA in the sixties. The first production Mustang rolled off the assembly line in Dearborn, Michigan on March 9th 1964 and was introduced to the public at the New York World's Fair on April 17th 1964. The Mustang was only available as a hardtop coupé and convertible until September 1964, it was the fastback that drew the interest of Carroll Shelby which extended the iconic reach of the Ford Mustang and firmly put it into the category of motoring legends. The Mustang sold over one million units in its first 18 months on the market and became a popular car to customise, from engine upgrades to racing stripes, no two Mustangs are often found the same. Ford kept the Mustang relatively cheap with a list price of $2,368, making the car extremely popular.This Mustang is an extremely desirable manual transmission fastback, painted in stunning Ivy Green, which was only available on the 1965 model year. The car was manufactured in Dearborn Michigan in May 1965 and fitted with the optional C-code 200bhp Windsor 289ci V8. The car was also specified with a limited-slip-differential and the special handling package. The original owner of the car was so fond of it that they kept it until circa 2003. The car arrived in the UK in 2004 and is now with only its second owner on UK shores, making it a three-owner car from new. The engine was rebuilt in 1983, only around 7,000 miles ago, some bodywork was also carried out at the same time. The gearbox was rebuilt less than 3,000 miles ago, the clutch and flywheel were also both replaced around the same time. New rear shocks were fitted in 2021 and the tyres were upgraded to modern radials in 2022, with geometry adjusted at the same time to suit. The general impression of this Mustang is one that suggests a large amount of originality, the car is nicely patinated and is perfect to be used and enjoyed as it sits, without the fear of ruining a box fresh show quality restored example. 1982 Lancia Montecarlo Transmission: manualMileage:52225The Lancia Beta Montecarlo is a mid-engined sports car which was produced from 1975 through to 1982. Cars from 1975 to 1978 were known as a Lancia Beta Montecarlo and the latter cars produced from 1979 to 1982, were simply known as Lancia Montecarlo. Both series were offered in coupé and spider versions and were constructed by Pininfarina. The total production amounted to 3,835 first series Beta Montecarlo's and 1,940 second series, of which only 172 cars were right hand drive coupés.This particular example presents in largely original condition. The vendor had the aim to sympathetically refresh the car, retaining as much of the original paint as possible. The car had some repairs to the sills and outer door skins earlier in its life but on the whole, our vendor was so impressed with the condition of the car when he saw it, he decided to buy it. The interior presents in fantastic condition, showing it has clearly been in the hands of enthusiasts for its whole 41 years and 52,000 miles.Our vendor has spent a reasonable amount of money on the car whilst in his ownership, the largest invoice coming from Freelance Motors in Devon in 2018. The work carried out came to a total cost of £1,945.48, for work consisting of a Guy Croft racing exhaust, which gives a lovely tone without being too shouty. Other work included a wheel alignment, big end shells, sump replacement, front and rear springs, suspension poly-bushing, front shock absorber, a thorough service and various gaskets and mountings. The car has also been cared for by Darren Cooksey, who is hugely knowledgeable on Lancia Montecarlo's. He did a timing belt change, fuel pump change and recent carburettor rebuild, along with various other small jobs. This Montecarlo is an excellent example, which our vendor has enjoyed using regularly in the summer months and sometimes even uses it to commute to work. 1978 MG B Roadster Transmission: manualMileage:98486Conceived in the late 1950s and launched in 1962, the MGB would turn out to be one of the most successful sports cars of all time. Attractively styled, cheap to run and easily maintained by the home mechanic, the 'B' carried on MG's traditional role of providing affordable, sports car motoring for the ordinary enthusiast. The MGB was mechanically similar to the preceding MGA, though with a heavier, unitary construction bodyshell. To compensate for the newcomer's increased weight the existing B-Series engine was stretched from 1,622 to 1,798cc, while the MGB's aerodynamically efficient lines made the most of the maximum available 95bhp to achieve a top speed which just bested the magic 'ton'. A 'right first time' design that changed little over the years apart from the adoption of a more robust five-main-bearing engine in 1965 (fitted from the start of GT production that autumn) a minor facelift for 1970 and the adoption of plastic bumpers (to comply with US legislation) for 1975, the 'B' enjoyed an 18 year production life and sales totalling in excess of 500,000 cars. Its popularity remaining undiminished today, the classic MGB is one of the easiest sports cars of its era to run and maintain in the 21st Century, being served by a worldwide industry of spare parts and service providers.Originally registered on 1st September 1978, this MGB is finished in Blaze with a black interior. 2012 Maserati GranCabrio Transmission: automaticMileage:51000The Maserati GranTurismo, and its convertible cousin the GranCabrio, entered production in 2007. Powered initially by the 4.7 litre Ferrari-derived V8 engine sitting in the Quattroporte V platform, the GranTurismo was famously developed in just nine months, a record that remains unbeaten to this day. The reason for this furious pace was that Ferrari kept the designs for the planned next Maserati coupé for themselves when the Fiat Chrysler Group took over, eventually morphing those designs into the Ferrari California. So, with their plans nicked from under their noses, Maserati had to start again and work fast, and what a great job they did with both the GranTurismo and GranCabrio.Registered new on 9th January 2012, this very well-presented example is offered in metallic black coachwork over a cream leather interior and is showing circa 51,000 miles on the odometer. The paintwork is very good showing little sign of age, and the interior is very clean. 1955 Riley RME Transmission: manualMileage:51657Despite producing some fine small saloons and sporting cars while carving out an enviable competition record for itself during the early 1930s, Riley had lost its battle to remain independent and was part of the Nuffield Organisation by the decade's end. Rileys of the immediate post-war years were, nevertheless, recognisably products of the 'old firm'. Most popular of these was the 1.5 litre RMA sports saloon, which came with torsion bar independent front suspension, hydro-mechanical brakes and Riley's classic twin-camshaft, overhead-valve engine in four-cylinder guise. An improved version, the RME, with fully hydraulic brakes appeared in 1952 and continued in production until 1955.This example of a late Riley RME was first registered on 4th January 1955 and is presented in Brunswick Green over black coachwork with complementary green leather trim. This lovely well-maintained example shows the perfect balance of patina with the 1.5 litre engine starting on the button when inspected. The car is accompanied by a wealth of paperwork from invoices to owners' club magazines and even spares. The front seats have been retrimmed but are very well matched to the original rear, the headlining and woodwork are also in very good order throughout. In 2018 the car underwent a £4,000 engine overhaul, and after his purchase in 2020 our vendor has continued to maintain and improve the car. This RME benefits from a new radiator and the history file demonstrates a new water pump kit and master cylinder in 2022. A reliable, solid example of the wonderful classic Riley which comes with a lovely history including original manuals, toolkit and invoices.
