A Continental patinated bronze model of a horse, late 19th century, portrayed looking back to dexter, on a naturalistically cast base with foliage and rockwork, 21.5cm high, 22.5cm long; on an associated Louis Philippe bronze mounted marmo Siena base, circa 1830, with foliate cast band to front and sides, on four bracket feet, 8.5cm high, 28cm wide, 12.5cm deep
A French patinated bronze and Boullework mounted equestrian group, late 19th century, probably portraying King Henri IV, bearded and with laurel wreath to his hair, wearing ceremonial armour, the horse with head slightly to dexter, his left foreleg and right hind leg raised, the ebonised wood rectangular plinth with incised and cut brass foliate inlay on a faux tortoiseshell ground, 43.5cm high, 28cm long, (lacking elements). This model is very similar to the equestrian monument to Henri IV erected on the Pont Neuf in Paris in 1618. The original was commissioned from Giambologna by Marie de Medici but was destroyed in 1792 during the Revolution. A new one was cast in 1818 from a mould made using a surviving cast of the original. The example in this lot differs from that on the Pont Neuf in various ways, but mainly in the arrangement of the king`s arms and the detailing in his armour. The pose of the horse is almost identical

A rare Dutch East India Company bronze howitzer, circa 1725, the cylindrical two stage barrel with flat cascabel and broad first reinforce cast with lifting loop and large diameter trunnions, the astragal moulded muzzle with 10 inch bore, 90cm long, maximum diameter 48cm. Provenance: The property of a private collector. Recovered from the wreck of an early 19th century Dutch East Indiaman off the west coast of Africa which was lost on a return trip from Batavia with a cargo including redundant cannon for smelting. Purchased directly from the salvers in 1980. The current lot is a rare model which can be described as being halfway between a mortar and a standard cannon. The short barrel allows relatively large projectiles to be fired (at the expense of accuracy and range) whilst retaining a degree of portability and maneuverability in the field. Projectiles could either be solid, hollow (explosive) or grapeshot making this a useful weapon perhaps well suited to amphibious campaigns.
