Marboeuf & Cie anlässlich der Präsentation ihrer Neujahrswünsche für 1920 mit verschiedenen Ausführungen von Schachteln für Schokolade, Marrons glacés, feine Bonbons und Luxusparfums. Die meisten Entwürfe sind mit Pochoir koloriert, einige zusätzlich mit Gold geprägt. Während einige Modelle noch im traditionelleren Stil des 19. Jahrhunderts gehalten sind, greifen andere bereits typische Art Déco Elemente der 20er Jahre auf. Die farbleuchtenden Designs sind in verschiedenen Formen gehalten: abgerundet, quadratisch, oval oder rechteckig. Einige sind zudem mit Zierbändern ausgestattet. Die Sammlung beinhaltet Modelle für die großen Namen der damaligen Süßwaren- und Schokoladenindustrie: Au chat noir, Mogol's, E. Maze, F. A. Marboeuf & Cie on the occasion of the presentation of their New Year's wishes for 1920 with various designs of boxes for chocolates, marrons glacés, fine sweets and luxury perfumes. Most of the designs are coloured with pochoir, some additionally embossed with gold. While some models are still in the more traditional style of the 19th century, others already pick up on typical Art Deco elements of the 1920s. The colourful designs come in various shapes: rounded, square, oval or rectangular. Some are also equipped with decorative bands. The collection includes models for the big names of the confectionery and chocolate industry of the time: Au chat noir, Mogol's, E. Maze, F. A. Desarnod, Kohler, Klaus, Confiserie Zurcher, À la petite bergère as well as for well-known perfumers such as Lydès, Gueldy, Silva, Selfridge London, Parfumerie Ninon, Gilot, Rigaud and Gabilla. The Parisian firm Marboeuf & Cie was specialised in art publishing and luxury cardboard boxes. - Partly minimally rubbed. One design with marginal tear. Well preserved and with strong colours.

Foscarini ("Epistola circa Pythagoricorum & Copernici opinionem de mobilitate terrae et stabilitate solis", S. 353-377). Mit dem Porträt des Autors von Claude Audran. - Galileo erkundet die relativen Vorzüge des heliozentrischen Modells in Form eines im Titel angeküdigten Dialogs. Dabei werden drei unterschiedliche Standpunkte von jeweils einer Figur vertreten. Salviati ist ein heliozentrischer Kopernikaner, Sagredo ist neutral, und Simplicio ist ein Anhänger des aristotelisch-ptolemäischen Systems, das die Erde in den Mittelpunkt des Universums stellt. Auf dem Kupfertitel sind Kopernikus und Ptolemaus zusammen mit Aristoteles dargestellt. Die italienische Erstausgabe (Florenz, 1632) wurde von Papst Urban VIII verboten und kurz nach der Veröffentlichung aus dem Verkehr gezogen, was ein Jahr später zum Prozess und zur Inhaftierung des Autors führte. Die lateinische Ausgabe des "Dialogo" war in ganz Europa weit verbreitet, die sich um das Werk rankende Kontroverse verstärkte nur das öffentliche Interesse. - Vorsätze erneuert. Etwas beschnitten, ohne Textverlust. Erste Bll. mit fachmännisch restaurierten, kleinen Fehlstellen im weißen Rand. Ab S. 233 bis zum Schluss im oberen Rand wurmgängig, dort meist fachmännisch restauriert, teils mit etwas Buchstabenverlust. Insgesamt sauberes und wohlerhaltenes Exemplar. Modern morocco on five bands with gilt title on spine, Spanish edges, gilt edges and marbled endpapers (front joint restored, slightly rubbed). - Second Latin edition. - The first edition of the Latin translation by Matthias Bernegger of the famous "Dialogo sopra i due massimi sistemi de mondo..." was published in Strasburg in 1635. It contained for the first time the appendices by J. Kepler ("Perioche ex introductione in Martem", pp. 348-52) and P. A. Foscarini ("Epistola circa Pythagoricorum & Copernici opinionem de mobilitate terrae et stabilitate solis", pp. 353-377), also present here. With a portrait of the author by Claude Audran. - Galileo explores the relative merits of the heliocentric model in the form of a dialogue indicated in the title. Three different points of view are represented by one character each. Salviati is a heliocentric Copernican, Sagredo is neutral, and Simplicio is a follower of the Aristotelian-Ptolemaic system, which places the Earth at the centre of the universe. Mit Wasserzeichen (Löwe mit Schwert und Initialen C.D.L.). - Das außergewöhnliche Manuskript vereint 18 handgeschriebene Fabeln in fein leserlicher und geschwungener Schrift. Die lavierten Federzeichnungen, welche die Fabeln begleiten sind mit äußerster Sorgfalt ausgeführt und illustrieren das Werk wunderbar in ihrer minutiösen Darstellung der Tiere und Landschaften. Als Vorbild für das vorliegende Manuskript und die Zeichnungen schien eine von Sadeler illustrierte Ausgabe der Fabeln zu dienen, welche 1743 in Paris erschien: Les fables d'Ésope gravées par Sadeler, avec un discours préliminaire & les sens moraux en distiques. - Papierbedingt gebräunt. Im oberen Rand etwas gewellt. Vereinzelt etwas fleckig. Einige Bll. mit kleinem Wasserfleck. Insgesamt sehr gut erhalten. French manuscript with 18 hand drawings. Late 18th / early 19th c. Modern half cloth with marbled boards and mounted cover label (somewhat rubbed). - With watermark (lion with sword and initials C.D.L.). - This extraordinary manuscript combines 18 handwritten fables in finely legible and curved script. The pen-and-ink drawings accompanying the fables are executed with the utmost care and beautifully illustrate the work in their meticulous depiction of animals and landscapes. The model for the present manuscript and drawings seems to have been a French edition of the fables illustrated by Sadeler in 1743. - Paper browned. Somewhat wavy in the upper part. Sporadically somewhat spotted. A few leaves with a small water stain. Overall very well preserved.

Sehr seltene Ausgabe der Bildergeschichte, möglicherweise die Vorlage für den Rundfunk-Werbefilm von Georg Woelz und Gerhard Krüger, der 1938 im Agfa-Bipack-Farbenfilmverfahren für die Commerz-Film A.G. geschaffen wurde. Der 15 minütige Film war ein Werbefilm für Telefunkenradios. Ein Junge verzweifelt da an einem komplizierten Schulaufsatz, in dem er den Rundfunk erklären soll. Im Traum erbarmt sich seiner ein kleines Männchen und nimmt ihn mit ins Rundfunkgebäude des SFB. Mit kleinen Orchestermusikern marschiert er durch Mikrofone und Verstärker (da gibt's was zu essen für schwachgewordene Töne). Im Äther begegnen ihm andere Sendungen und so weiter. Very rare edition of the picture story, possibly the model for the radio commercial film by Georg Woelz and Gerhard Krüger, created in 1938 in the Agfa bipack colour film process for Commerz-Film A.G.. The 15-minute film was an advertising film for Telefunken radios.

Remarkable is the publisher's cover by Charles Meunier, one of the great master bookbinders of French Art Nouveau: cover with embedded bronze plaque representing the reduced model for a monument to the "Muse de Chénier", which was to be erected by the sculptor Denis Puech.

Papua-Neuguinea - - Sammlung von über 160 Original-Photographien einer Mission der Missions-Verkehrs-Arbeitsgemeinschaft in Papua-Neuguinea. Um 1935. Vintages, Silbergelatine, überwiegend auf Agfa-Lupex. Maße von ca. 7 x 6 cm bis 11,5 x 8,5 cm. Die Aufnahmen entstammen einer Mission aus dem Umfeld des berühmten "fliegenden Paters" Paul Schulte (1895-1974). Der aus Magdeburg stammende Oblatenmissionar rief 1927 unter großem Widerstand der Kirche die Missions-Verkehrs-Arbeitsgemeinschaft (MIVA) ins Leben, nachdem ein paar Jahre zuvor sein Freund Pater Otto Fuhrmann in Südwestafrika an einer Lugenentzündung starb, da er nicht rechtzeitig zu einem Arzt transportiert werden konnte. Ziel der MIVA war und ist es, motorisierte Fahrzeuge in der Weltmission einzusetzen. Schulte flog selbst vornehmlich im südlichen Afrika, war jedoch ab 1936 auch unter den Inuit in Kanada aktiv. Über die Missionen in den beiden Regionen publizierte er vielgelesene Bücher. Nach Kriegsausbruch musste der Pater sich von Kanada aus in die USA zurückziehen, von wo aus er nach Kriegsende Hilfslieferungen in das zerstörte Deutschland organisierte. 1949 kehrte er nach Deutschland zurück, verbrachte seinen Lebensabend jedoch in Namibia, wo er 1974 starb. - Bei der vorliegenden Sammlung handelt es sich um eine reiche Dokumentation verschiedener Stämme in Papua-Neuguinea, welche im Rahmen einer Mission der MIVA ab dem Jahr 1935 entstanden sind. Auf einem der Bilder ist im Hintergrund fragmentarisch die Maschine der MIVA und ihre Registrierung zu erkennen. Es handelt sich um das Modell L25 des Herstellers Klemm, welches 1935 das Schweizer Kennzeichen HB-XAL erhielt und auf den Namen St. Paulus, in Anlehnung an Pater Paul Schulte, getauft wurde. Die Schweizer Registrierung war notwendig, da Papa-Neuguinea unter englischem Einfluss stand und die Einreise einer deutschen Maschine nicht möglich war. Der Flieger wurde zerlegt mit dem Schiff überführt und nach seiner Ankunft in Neuguinea von dem mitgereisten Piloten Willy Schafhausen zusammengesetzt. Ein Bericht Schafhausens über seine Tätigkeit und das Leben mit den Eingeborenen ist in Pater Schultes Buch "Das Wagnis des Fliegenden Paters" aus den 1950er-Jahren abgedruckt. Dort wird von Angriffen der Indigenen auf die durch den Busch reisenden Missionare berichtet. Die Einführung des Flugzeuges brachte schließlich die Wende in der Arbeit des Missionare. Schafhausen starb 1939 in Papua Neuguinea bei einem Flugzugabsturz mit einer anderen Maschine. - Enthält einige wenige Doubletten. Durch Lagerung gerollt. Nur sehr vereinzelt etwas fleckig. Insgesamt in sehr gutem und sauberen Zustand. Einzigartige, ethnographische Dokumentation. - Hinzu zwei Bücher: "Das Wagnis des Fliegenden Paters" und "Der fliegende Pater Paul Schule, Gründer der MIVA". Papua New Guinea - Collection of over 160 original photographs of a mission of the Missionary International Vehicular Association. Around 1935. Vintages, silver gelatin, mostly on Agfa-Lupex. - The photographs originate from a mission of the famous "flying padre" Paul Schulte (1895-1974). The Oblate missionary founded the Missionary International Vehicular Association (MIVA) in 1927 under great resistance from the Church, after his friend Father Otto Fuhrmann had died of pneumonia in Southwest Africa a few years earlier because he could not be transported to a doctor in time. MIVA's goal was and still is to use motorised vehicles in world mission. Schulte himself flew mainly in southern Africa, but was also active among the Inuit in Canada from 1936. He published widely read books about the missions in both regions. After the outbreak of WWII, Schulte had to retreat from Canada to the USA, from where he organised aid shipments to destroyed Germany after the end of the war. He returned to Germany in 1949, but spent his later years in Namibia, where he died in 1974. - The collection is a rich documentation of various tribes in Papua New Guinea, taken during a MIVA mission from 1935 onwards. In one of the pictures, the MIVA machine and its registration can be seen fragmentarily in the background. It is the model L25 of the manufacturer Klemm, which received the Swiss registration number HB-XAL in 1935 and was baptised "St. Paulus", in reference to Father Paul Schulte. The Swiss registration was necessary because Papa New Guinea was under English influence and it was not possible for a German aircraft to enter the country. The plane was taken apart, transported by ship and assembled after its arrival in New Guinea by Willy Schafhausen, a pilot. Schafhausen's account of his work and life with the indigenous people is published in Father Schulte's book "Das Wagnis des Fliegenden Paters" (The Dare of the Flying Father) from the 1950s. There, attacks by the indigenous people on the missionaries travelling through the bush are reported. The introduction of the aeroplane finally brought about a turnaround in the missionary's work. Schafhausen died in Papua New Guinea in 1939 in a plane crash with another aircraft. - Contains a few duplicates. Rolled due to storage. Only very sporadically a little bit stained. Overall in very good and clean condition. Unique, ethnographic documentation. - Included: two books, see above.

Holzschnittvignette, welche die vom Wandermuseum angepriesenen siamesischen Zwillinge Chang und Eng Bunker zeigt. Hinter dem "Musée francais" stand vermutlich das Museum von Alexander Hartkopff, welcher seinen Hauptsitz überwiegend in Paris hatte. - Die namensgebenden siamesischen Zwillinge Bunker wurden nach ihrer "Entdeckung" 1829 in die USA gebracht und in zahlreichen Zirkussen und Jahrmärkten als Attraktion gezeigt. - Zur Ausstellung gehörte auch "Julie Pastrana und ihr Kind". Julia Pastrana war eine an Hypertrichose leidende Frau, welche durch ihre übermäßige Behaarung beim damaligen Publikum große Bekanntheit erlangte. Circus - Variety - Touring Museum. - Broadsheet with woodcut vignette. -Large format and rare single sheet print with small woodcut vignette depicting the Siamese twins Chang and Eng Bunker touted by the Wandering Museum. - The eponymous Siamese twins Bunker were brought to the USA after their "discovery" in 1829 and shown as an attraction in numerous circuses and fairs. - The exhibition also included "Julie Pastrana and her child". Julia Pastrana was a woman suffering from hypertrichosis who became well known to the public of the time for her excessive hairiness. Whether Pastrana's actual mummified corpse or a wax model was presented can no longer be reconstructed. - The margin somewhat tightly trimmed, with center fold. Altogether a very well-preserved copy and an interesting historical document.
