Mint boxed as new. Brief History.PA474 originally from 82 Squadron, survived the hostilities as she was commissioned just as the war in the far east had ended. The aircraft was therefore assigned photographic reconnaissance duties in South Africa. Having survived for 18 years it was brought home to be adopted by the Air Historical Branch in 1964 and to go on display at the proposed RAF museum at Hendon."City Of Lincoln" as she is commonly known, underwent a refit in 2000 and was repainted as "Mickey The Moocher" serial EE176 "QR-M" of 61 Squadron. By 2006 she had received another major overhaul and in 2007 was renamed "Phantom of the Ruhr" serial EE139 of No.550 squadron."Phantom of the Ruhr" was a famous aircraft with 121 operational missions and 830 hours of flying recorded. This aircraft was declared beyond repair 3 times, but was repaired and put back into operational service. Her last mission on 21st. November 1944 was a night raid on the Aschaffenburg railway marshalling yards. Squadron Leader Willie Caldow believed that the bad handling he experienced that night was due to a twisted airframe. On his return to base he instructed that the aircraft be withdrawn from operations. The "Phantom" with many other war weary sisters was unceremoniously scrapped in February 1946.

Dinky Austin A40 Van "Omnisport" (470) Believed to be a South American promotional issue that was drawn by Meccano during 1954 (Ramsays Price Guide) 1957 (Mike & Sue Richardson book) It is generally thought that it was never put into production, but this example has recently come to light. The van is in the correct light blue that was assigned to the model and the text on the sides "Omnisport Todo Para El Deporte" is printed on to production standard (not decals). The base is a standard Dinky item with a normal production crackle finish and has a correct Dinky rivet (untouched). The standard ridged wheels, also in light blue, are fitted with the later style treaded tyres, indicating that the later date of 1957 is probably correct. Note: The original owner spent much of his working life overseas, including some time in Central/South America. Therefore it is possible it was obtained in that area.
