Note: vessel St Nectan 564 tonnes gross weight, built in 1937 by Cook, Welton & Gemmell, Beverley. Believed to be fitted with battery electric motor for radio control.(B.P. 21% + VAT) Rather dusty commensurate with storage. No obvious damage.Provenance: these models by Robert Gerald Iles (1940-2019), a former British Army Officer who had always been interested in model making but did not have enough spare time whilst serving, resident in Pembrokeshire and joined the Pembrokeshire Model Sailing Yacht club where he won numerous trophies at club and national level. He also started his own business 'The Top Rig' making sails for model yachts, he then started making model ships for his own enjoyment, primarily British war ships and he took his models to modelling exhibitions all around the UK. Particularly well known in Wales.

Exhibition quality scratch built scale model of the Royal Navy 'Dido' class light cruiser 'HMS Hermione' 1850 tonnes fully loaded with a length of 485ft, 512ft overall, 50.5ft beam drawing 114ft, powered by Parsons geared turbines to four shafts with four Admiralty three drum boilers producing 62000shp, built by Alexander Stephen & Sons of Glasgow, launched 1939, sunk June 1942 by German Submarine U205 in the Mediterranean with loss of life. Finely detailed model with figures on bridge, turrets and armament. Electric motor powering four propellers for radio control. A fine quality scratch built scale model of a coal powered traction engine, in a wood and glass presentation case, with moving parts, finished in green and red, the boiler plate reading 'The KLJ 1974', the engine 44.5cm long, rear wheel diameter 15.5cm, case measuring 47 cm high x 60 cm x 30 cm.Condition report: The engine appears to be in good order throughout, with no obvious faults visible. The display case will require tightening up to keep the glass in place more securely.

Es ist der Ort, der sein Schaffen zeitlebens prägen und zu dem es ihn immer wieder zurückziehen sollte. Als Maler nahm sich Utrillo die impressionistische Kunst der Zeit zum Vorbild, insbesondere die lichtdurchflutete Malerei Alfred Sisleys beeindruckte ihn nachhaltig. Bei aller Virtuosität im Umgang mit der Farbe blieb Utrillo im Unterschied zu vielen Zeitgenossen jedoch Porträtist der Landschaft und vor allem von Paris. Es sind seine Ansichten des Pariser Nordens und insbesondere des Montmartre, die den Sohn von Suzanne Valadon weltberühmt machten.Sein Interesse an Landschaft und Stadt behält der Maler über alle Schaffensphasen hinweg bei und variiert vor allem in der Farbe: Nachdem im Frühwerk noch dunklere Töne vorherrschten, entdeckt Maurice Utrillo in der Bretagne das Licht. Gleißend hell, beinahe überbelichtet scheinen die leuchtend weißen Arbeiten um 1910, in die dann ab etwa 1915 die Farbe zurückkehrt. Das vorliegende Gemälde ist ein eindrucksvolles Beispiel für die farbkräftige Palette im Spätwerk des Künstlers. Die Darstellung der Moulin de la Galette überzeugt hier in spezifischer Lebendigkeit des Pinselstrichs und komplex differenzierter, luftiger Farbigkeit. Mit großer Leichtigkeit und Souveränität gelingt Utrillo hier ein ausgesprochen atmosphärischer Eindruck dieser ikonischen Montmartre-Ansicht. This place shaped his work throughout his life and would repeatedly draw him back to itself. As a painter Utrillo took the Impressionist art of his time as his model; the light-filled painting of Alfred Sisley made a particularly lasting impression on him. Despite his being a virtuoso in the handling of colour, Utrillo - in contrast to many of his contemporaries - nonetheless remained a portraitist of the landscape and, particularly, of Paris. His views of northern Paris and especially of Montmartre are what made the son of Suzanne Valadon world-famous.The painter maintained his interest in the landscape and city throughout every phase of his oeuvre, varying colour more than anything else: after his early work, in which darker tones had still been dominant, Maurice Utrillo discovered light in Brittany. The luminously white works from around 1910 appear glaringly bright, almost overexposed; then, from around 1915, colour returns back to them. The present painting is an impressive example of the bold colours of the artist's palette in his late work. Here, the depiction of the Moulin de la Galette convinces us with the distinctive vitality of the brushwork and the complex nuances of its airy tonality. With great ease and mastery, Utrillo has succeeded in creating an emphatically atmospheric impression of this iconic view of Montmartre.

Nur ihr Kopf mit dem lockigen Haarschopf und der unter dem Kinn gebundenen Spitzenhaube sowie die Finger ihrer linken Hand sind sichtbar, der übrige Körper bleibt unter dem voluminösen Deckbett verborgen. Die Intimität der Situation wird durch den engen Bildausschnitt und die gemalte querovale Rahmung noch unterstrichen. Der Betrachter kann sich als direkter Adressat ihres Lächelns ansehen, spürt aber zugleich die spielerische, erotisch aufgeladene Beziehung zwischen Maler und Modell. The same young, dark-haired model can also be seen in two small likenesses created in the same year: once as a full-length figure standing in front of a dishevelled bed in Das traurige Mädchen (Berend-Corinth 155), whose mournful gesture of covering her face only serves as a pretext for largely revealing her nude body, and once as Das lustige Mädchen (Berend-Corinth 157), which shows her laughing and only scantily covered by a sheet.Nestled between the pillow and blanket, the girl smiles directly at the viewer with an unaffected cheerfulness in the painting offered here. Only her head, with its curly shock of hair and the lace bonnet tied beneath her chin, and the fingers of her left hand are visible; the rest of her body remains hidden under the voluminous covers. The intimacy of the situation is further underscored through the narrowly cropped view and the horizontal oval of the painted frame. The viewer is simultaneously offered a direct smile from the subject but also a sense of the playful, erotically charged relationship taking place between painter and model.
