An incredible rare vintage ' Smart & Brown ' salesman advertising example miniature model lathe ' Model A Toolroom Lathe '. Incredibly highly detailed miniature version of the full size lathe, it comes fully engineered as made by Smart & Brown, and likely for an exhibition or salesman's sample model. Precision engineered, and one of the best model lathe's we have ever seen. Housed within it's original mahogany locking case (key present) and housed under perspex. * Railway Interest. A fine gauge 1 Aster model 'King Arthur Class' live steam 4-6-0 locomotive and tender, Southern No.768 'Sir Balin', 60cm long (including tender), in a black wooden carrying case (Qty: 1)The "King Arthur" class locomotives were designed by R.W. Urie for the London South Western Railway (LSWR) and they were all named after figures from Arthurian legend. There were over 70 engines built between 1918 to 1927. After groupings in 1923, these engines became part of the Southern Railway system. Sir Balin was built in 1925 by the North British Locomotive Company and was one of 30 engines known as the "Scotch Arthurs". Sir Balin was originally used to haul the boat train from London Victoria to Dover, it was withdrawn from service in 1961

* Ruhleben POW Camp. A collection of WWI photographic postcards of the WWI prisoner of war camp Ruhleben, Germany compiled by Thomas Howat, comprising approx. 600 in two albums, showing theatre performances, backstage and preparation, roll call, general camp life, POW made souvenirs including model engines and boats, camp horticulture, interior images of offices, workshops, canteen, barbers, inmates (some signed), together with travelling permit for Howat to travel from Cologne to Ostend from 4 June to 4 September 1919, an identity card with a small photograph of Howat, a drawing of berth 5A showing Howat and his fellow POWs in their beds and other personal paperwork all kept within a Ruhleben Camp official wallet (Qty: 2)Thomas Howat was born in Glasgow in 1888, during his time at Ruhleben he was actively involved in creating a rose garden and growing all types of vegetables and plants including 52 types of sweet peas. Ruhleben was described as a little England in the middle of Germany, the camp formed a Horticultural Society and applied for RHS affiliation. Thomas Howat was the secretary and wrote to RHS Wisley 'we are unable of course to remit the usual fee, but trust this is no hindrance'. RHS Wisley replied 'Absolutely not!' and soon they had 943 members (almost 20% of the camp population).
* WWI & WWII Ephemera. * Alcock & Brown. A fine scratch-built model of a Vickers 'Vimy', a type used by Alcock & Brown in the first non-stop Transatlantic flight in June 1919, of wooden construction with metal bracing wires and control rods, fitted with four blade propellers, with undercarriage, finished in olive green, 85.5c, wingspan, in large wooden transit case with British Aircraft Corporation Exhibition Stores plaque applied and additionally stencilled in black 'Vimy Ex 1153', 21.5cm high x 93cm wide x 63cm deep (Qty: 1)
* Battle of Britain . A collection of Spitfire relics from a crashed aircraft flown by Pilot Officer W.H. Reilly, 66 Sqn, 17 October 1940, presented on a modern board comprising remains of a a valve, bracket, bullet, window and tunic button with an airfix type model of a Spitfire plus historical plaques, 23.5 x 30cm, together with a WWI aircraft propeller tip, two ARP steel helmets, rations books, civilian gas masks etc (Qty: carton)43043 Pilot Officer Hugh William Reilly was born in London, Ontario in 1918, he came to England in May 1939 and joined the RAF in September. In September 1940 he joined 64 Sqn at Leconsfield and later that month moved to 66 Sqn at Gravesend, on 27 September he shot down a Me109, and he himself was shot down and killed on 17 October 1940 over Westerham by Major Molders of Jg51 and his Spitfire crashed at Crockham Hill, Sevenoaks, Reilly is buried in Gravesend Cemetery, Kent.
