A rare hand decorated creamware pitcher with green trim to rim and handle.A rare hand decorated creamware pitcher with green trim to rim and handle, depicting scenes from Aeronautical Scenes Seriesware, introduced in 1909 and withdrawn by 1914. The jug depicts scenes from the First International Air Race meeting at Rheims in August 1909. In the foreground are several historical aircraft, including the Wright Model A, an early aircraft produced by the Wright Brothers beginning in 1906. The background includes a racecourse and stand which suggests the racecourse at Rheims where the meet was held. Most of the aircrafts depicted are known to have flown at this event and competed for prizes donated by the champagne industry. Stamped to base in green ROYAL DOULTON ENGLAND D 3205.
