After Giambologna (Jean Boulogne, Giovanni da Bologna) (1529-1608) Bronze model of Mercury, 33.5cm highNote: Giambologna created the original version of this statue in the 16th Century. Giambologna sent his Mercury from Florence to the Villa Medici in Rome. The original sculpture was placed on top of the fountain in the middle of the staircase between the gardens and the loggia entrance to the Villa. Giambologna went on to make five other versions of this Mercury. With signs of wear consistent with age and use. With loss of caduceus/missing caduceus. Model with slight loosness.
