1914-1945 A.D. German practice stick grenade group including: a WWII model 24 Stielhandgranate with pierced red-coloured head; together with a restored relic head of WWI date. 684 grams, 44.5 cm (17 1/2 in.). Acquired from The Lanes Armoury, Brighton, and Graham Currie Militaria. The Kusmirek Collection, UK. Accompanied by copies of the listings. The brb-code name for Richard Rinker GmbH, was used for training German armed forces during WWII. Its distinctive appearance lead to it being dubbed the stick grenade' or 'potato masher' in British army slang. It used a friction igniter, with a pull cord running through the hollow wooden handle terminating in a porcelain ball.
Early 1st millennium B.C. Triangular with thick rectangular-section midrib, rounded shoulders, narrow tip, short tang with hole for fixing pin for the organic grip; accompanied by a custom-made display stand. Cf. Christie's, The Axel Guttmann Collection of Ancient Arms and Armour, part 1, London, 2002, p.34, no.31. 285 grams total, 32 cm wide including stand (12 5/8 in.). Acquired 1980s-1990s. From the H.N. collection, Milton Keynes, Bedfordshire, UK. This tanged bronze blade from Luristan belongs to a category of Luristan swords still in use in the Achaemenid Period, as proved by a blade with a perished handle (probably bone or wood) of the same type, in the National Museum of Iran (2694/15633). Examples without inscriptions like our model have been classified by Grotkamp-Schepers in the Solingen Museum as pieces from Luristan. [No Reserve]

Composed of items replicating ancient artefacts from a variety of time periods and cultures, including Egyptian faience scarab and shabti amulet; Near Eastern stone stamp and cylinder seals, animal amulets and figural beads; Roman eagle pin with eagle finial; together with other items including a finger ring, model head and large figural plaque. 310 grams total, 1.3-12.9 cm (1/2 - 5 1/8 in.).
