The Order of Carol I, the highest Romanian Order, instituted on May 10th, 1906, part of the 40th jubilee celebration of King Carol of Hohenzollern, was awarded until 1932 in 4 classes: Collar, Grand Cross, Grand Officer and Commander. With the introduction of the Order of Loyal Service in 1932, the last two classes of the Order Carol I were closed, but the decorations could be worn until 1947. The decoration of the order displays a special form combining four joined ciphers of King Ferdinand (double F). The 1st Model bearing the cipher of Carol II was veryrarely awarded as it was intended primarily to recognize achievements in 1st World War. The order was instituted on July 31st, 1930 by Carol II, in fourclasses, Commander, Officer, Knight and Golden Cross, and awarded to the civilian and military air personnel, in times of peace and in war. The decorationis a cross with a longer vertical arm, in the same design as the Michael the Brave order and a horizontal arm designed as a stylized wing. The central shieldhas the Romanian eagle on white enamel and the king`s cipher in the middle on blue enamel. The green enameled laurel wreath between the arms of thecross is present only on the first two classes. The reverse bears the year of the order’s introduction, 1930. Very rare and in almost extremely fine condition! I RR!

(Honorary Axe for Boarding the Enemy) Superb replacement model, 104x61 mm, cast in Silver and engraved by hand "Le 1er Consul/au Cen Philippe Ferey/Matelot Timonier/Combat du 27 THer an 9/DEVt Boulogne" and subsequently gilt. The recipient was a navy quartermaster (matelot timonier) on the gunship Etna and received this award on 11 Brumaire of year X for having distinguished himself in the combat of Boulogne fl eet on 27 Thermidor year IX. It is during that naval battle that he had his right hand blown away by a cannonball. Extremely rare published reward! Provenance collection "General Stiot". I- RR!

A very rare piece, extremely fine condition.
