Rolex: A Rare 18 Carat Gold Automatic Day/Date Centre Seconds Wristwatch, signed Rolex, Oyster Perpetual, Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified, model: Day/Date, ref: 6611, 1956, (calibre 1055) lever movement signed and numbered DD607749, adjusted to five positions and temperature, silvered dial with baton markers, day/date apertures, outer fifth of seconds track, case with screw down crown, fluted bezel, screw back stamped inside Montres Rolex S.A Geneva Switzerland and with case serial number 231687, convention gold mark 18k0.750, Glasgow import mark for 1956, Rolex 18 carat gold President bracelet with deployant clasp dated 1/6936mm wideThe Rolex Day/Date model was first released on the market in 1956 with references 6510 and 6511 which only lasted one year. This present example is an early Rolex Day/Date model reference 6611 Day/Date which carried on from the 6511. Rolex only made this reference 6611 between 1956-1959 and was introduced to the market in 1957.Case and bracelet with surface scratches, case sides with dents, fluted bezel is rubbed to the outer edges, case back with small dents, Rolex crown is screwing down correctly on to the threaded tube, bracelet links are stretched and worn, some links with signs of split marks, bracelet clasp with dents and the Rolex logo on the clasp is rubbed/worn, bracelet clasp is dated 1/69 and would have been replaced in the late 1960's, plexi glass with scratches, original finish dial has slightly discoloured but has a nice aged patina, dial with minor staining marks in parts, hand setting correctly, calendars are changing correctly, movement plates with small scratches, movement needs cleaning and a service, movement in going order. Total watch weight 103g. Bracelet length including the watch case is 20cm approximately.
