A RARE AUSTRIAN EXPERIMENTAL 11.5X50Rmm (WERDER) HINGED FALLING-BLOCK REPEATING RIFLE, no visible serial number, 29 1/4in. octagonal sighted barrel with full length tubular magazine beneath, action with two-part chamber, the bottom part housed in the breech-block and also acting as a follower, the rear part with striker pin and nut (mechanism at fault), the top of the breech-block with lift-up cover for loading, single trigger with slotted trigger-guard (possibly for a cocking lever), 13in. pistolgrip stock with iron butt-plate, chequered fore-end, German 1891 Vorratszeichen ("In Stock") marks. Other Notes: This rifle appears to be an experimental variation on Rudolf's 1886 patent repeating rifle. The original patent specified a single ring-trigger which cycled the mechanism and acted as the trigger which was not a satisfactory arrangement. It appears that this mechanism has been made to function with a trigger and a cocking lever (not present) which would theoretically overcome the issue with the single ring-trigger. The lack of a serial number also hints that this could be an experimental model. For further information see Jaroslav Lugs, Firearms Past and Present, Vol. 1, p. 152 and Vol. 2, p. 184, fig. 526.
