Ira Moskowitz was born in Galicia, Poland in 1912, emigrating with his family to New York in 1927. He enrolled at the Art Student's League and studied there from 1928-31. Moskowitz received a Guggenheim fellowship (in 1943). While Moskowitz devoted much of his life to the production of Judaic art, his New Mexico period was especially productive of other work. This is an original single- sided lithograph he did in black ink for a book about bullfighting (Toreros). The lithograph is titled “Jeu de la Cape “ and dated June 3, 1961 (6.3.61 III) in the margin on the lower left, and the drawings for the book were printed by the Mourlot Studios in Paris. The plate was professionally cleaned by Cristian Stakenborg of Stakenborg Galleries in Sarasota. The mat is 15 x 20 in. wide and the plate size is 9 5/8 x 12 1/2 in. wide.
