One of 15 copies h.c. with the signed original lithograph and dedication to René Char: "En elle-même est l'évidence, la terre donne au ciel la perfection du bleu. Son ami, P. Torreilles, Viens, 1971" ("To René Char, In itself is the evidence, the earth gives to the sky the perfection of blue. His friend, P. Torreilles, Viens, 1971"). When he received the book, the poet wrote to Torreilles: "Errantes graminées dans le jardin de Miró : le livre est apparu en sa blancheur et sa couleur. Merci". - Pierre Torreilles (1921-2005) was a French writer, poet and editor. Well preserved. Very rare.

*John Piper (1903-1992) signed limited edition lithograph – Three Somerset Towers, 48/70, 56cm x 76.5cm, in glazed frameProvenance: removed from Salmons, FingringhoeThe work has not been removed from the frame and is therefore impossible to state if it has been stuck down or not, although from the look of it it hasn't. The colours are good and there is part of a blindstamp visible in the lower right corner by the signature. The mount is scuffed and marked on the lower edge. Period limed oak frame.
Group of unframed works - to include John Farleigh, Bertram Nicolls and others - two nude pen sketches in mounts (one signed) by John Farleigh and approx 35 pencil sketches believed to be by Bertram Nicholls, a Charles Shannon 1893 lithograph, one watercolour by Deliss, drawing by Gilbert James, four plates from The Art Decorator October 1903, and sketches by Mike Jacks. Provenance: By descent from Douglas Shepherd (1922-1989), a designer and architect working on public houses for the brewery firm Ind Coope. He was heavily influenced by and was a serious collector of Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau, including leading designers and artists such as Charles Ashlee and Jessie M King. He assembled a large collection from the 1950s to 1970s. His book collection was subsequently sold through Sotherby’s and in 2013 his magnificent silver collection by Archibald Knox and others was sold through these rooms.

Mid 19th Century English School Miniature family portraitswatercolour on white marbleA gentleman and two ladies, with a photograph on marble in matching gilt and rosewood presentation frames12 x 10 cm**CONDITION REPORT**Half length miniature of gentleman with some loss of paint to the black particularly in the lower portion, also some dirt spotting. Both ladies with a little dirt spotting and some very light scuffing in the lower left corners. Other gentleman looks to be a photo lithograph printed onto the marble backing. The other painted miniature is in matching gilt gesso scroll frame, the photo of the gentleman in a slightly different frame but very close, all in matching outer glazed rosewood frames.
