Rotes Maroquin im Stil d. Z. über 5 Zierbünden mit goldgeprägtem RTitel und Buntpapiervorsätzen und Deckelbezügen (Vorder- und Rückdeckel der OBroschur eingebunden; diese mit stärkeren Gebrauchsspuren, fleckig, gebräunt und mit alt ergänzten Fehlstellen im Rand, ohne Textverluste). Leifert, 1899.Nicht bei Stammhammer etc. - Erste Ausgabe einer der seltensten Lenin-Titel, die "Wirtschaftsstudien", die fünf Aufsätze des Wladimir Iljitsch Uljanow (1870-1924), der unter dem Namen Lenin zu dem kommunistischen Revolutionär, marxistischen Theoretiker, Vorsitzenden der Bolschewiki sowie Gründer der Sowjetunion wurde. Enthalten sind die Aufsätze "Über die Merkmale der Wirtschaftsromantik", "Perlen des populistischen Projektismus", "Welches Erbe verweigern wir?", "Zur Frage der Statistik" und "Handwerkszählung 1894-1895 in der Provinz Perm und allgemeine Fragen des Handwerks", die zuvor in juristischen journalistischen Zeitschriften veröffentlicht worden, jetzt jedoch erstmals in Buchform vorliegen. Schon am 18. November 1898 hatte die St. Petersburger Polizeibehörde einen Bericht empfangen, dass "ein neues Werk der juristischen sozialdemokratischen Literatur mit dem Titel Wirtschaftsstudien und Artikel von Wladimir Iljin erschienen und in der Buchhandlung Znanie" angeboten wird. Den wahren Namen des Autors, Wladimir Iljitsch Uljanow, später bekannt unter "Lenin", hielten die Sozialdemokraten geheim, um einen ihrer Anführer zu schützen. In Briefen Lenins an Schuschenski geht seine Autorenschaft eindeutig hervor, und es wird evident, wie sorgfältig er mit der Veröffentlichung der Artikel umgegangen ist: Er entschied über die Typographie, wer das Korrekturlesen übernehmen sollte, vereinbarte die Anzahl der Autoren-Exemplare und wartete gespannt auf Neuigkeiten seiner Veröffentlichung. Das Buch erschien dann mit dem Druckdatum "1899" im Oktober 1898 in einer Auflage von 1.200 Exemplaren, die bis Sibirien verkauft wurden, schnell vergriffen waren und noch schneller wieder aus dem Markt verschwanden, da die Autorenschaft Lenins nicht prima vista ersichtlicht erschien. Somit gehört das Werk zu den seltensten Lenin-Erstdrucken. Tatsächlich gelang es uns nur, ein einziges weiteres Exemplar in der Finnischen Nationalbibliothek, der Kansalliskirjasto, nachzuweisen (Signatur: 001717676). Kein Exemplar wurde verzeichnet von Josef Stammhammer, Bibliographie des Sozialismus und Kommunismus, Nachträge. Kein Nachweis im JAP, APO, und auf Auktionen der letzten Jahrzehnte im Handel. - Titelblatt fleckig, mit Einrissen und alt angeränderten Randverlusten (ohne Text zu tangieren, ohne Textverlust), die wenigen ersten und letzten Textblätter mit unwesentlichen kleinen hinterlegten Eckverlusten, kaum fleckig, sonst im Block durchgehend sehr gut, nahezu hervorragend erhalten, breitrandig und unbeschnitten. Von größter Seltenheit, vor allem auch in dem originalen Schutzumschlag.

DAVID BAILEY CBE (born 1938); a signed coloured lithograph 'Penelope Tree With Machine Gun', signed and dated '71, 87 x 61, framed and glazed.Provenance: The vendor was working in Douglas Heywood's clothes shop on Mount Street in Mayfair in 1971 when David Bailey gave the shop four of these lithographs, each in a different colourway. He was a frequent visitor to the shop at the time, and several of his models also worked in the shop.
