Darwin (Charles) On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, second edition, second issue with "fifth thousand" on title, half-title, folding lithograph diagram, 32pp. publisher's catalogue dated January 1860 at end, light spotting to peripheral pages, ink ownership name partially removed from title leaving ink remnants and very small hole, original blind-stamped cloth, rebacked preserving original spine strip, endpapers renewed, lightly rubbed and stained, [Freeman 376], 8vo, 1860.
Circle Press.- Chaucer (Geoffrey) The Prologue to the Canterbury Tales, one of 50 A.P. copies, signed by the artist Ronald King, colour screen-prints, original cloth, slip-case, with accompanying portfolio of thick hand-made card containing 20 parts, each part with an original print (all but one signed) and an accompanying piece of prose or poetry printed on the inside wrapper by Roy Fisher, Andrew Crozier, Kevin Power and Keith Please, folder with silk ties, folio, Guildford, Circle Press, 1978.*** The Second Edition, as here, is a creation of some considerable complexity beyond even the details described above. Each of the twenty loose prints was new for this edition, as were the poems and essays by the four contributors. However, for five of the Chaucer characters which had already been illustrated by images in the book itself, the loose prints provided with the second edition were composite lithographic images of six versions of preliminary sketches for the final design, printed in black on a blue graph-paper grid (the exception is The Franklin, which although it appears in the book is also represented by a new full colour signed print in the portfolio). These five lithographs are I (The Knight), III (The Squire), V (The Nonne), VI (The Monk) and XVII (The Miller). Finally, above and beyond the called-for issue state, there are an additional five full-colour prints of the original images from the First Edition of the book inserted into folders I, III, V, VI and XVII. With the exception of the original print of III: The Squire and the lithograph of VI: Monk, each of the loose prints is numbered, titled and either intialled or signed by Ron King in pencil.

*CHRIS ORR (b. 1943) 'My tiger is only sleeping' signed, dated 1997, titled and numbered 5/20 in pencil to the margin, lithograph, the image 44cm x 64cmChris Orr was born in London in 1943. He is a painter, printmaker and teacher who attended Ravensbourne College of Art, 1959-63, Hornsey College of Art, 1963-4, and Royal College of Art. 1964-7. He has taught at the Ruskin School of Drawing in Oxford and Royal College of Art where he became Professor of Printmaking in 1998.Since 1976 Orr has also published 9 books that extend and amplify his ideas. His work is in the collection of Victoria and Albert Museum, Arts Council of Great Britain, National Portrait Gallery, Royal Academy of Arts, Science Museum, and the Tate Gallery. Orr was elected RA in 1995 and awarded MBE in 2008.
Frank Brangwyn (Welsh, 1857-1956) "Buccaneers", a dynamic seascape study of a small, cramped vessel full of downcast seamen, beyond a coastal Mediterranean village overlooking the shore, period lithograph, in ebonized frame under glass, 68 cm x 60 cm overall [Brangwyn was a painter, illustrator and designer. At 17, one of his paintings was accepted into the Royal Academy's summer exhibition. He worked alongside Diego Rivera producing large-scale murals for places such as the Rockefeller Plazza and the Royal Exchange.]
Paula Rego (1935 - 2022), Jane Eyre: The Guardians, from The Jane Eyre Suite, lithograph on wove paper, signed and numbered 29/35 in pencil, 87.5 x 64 cm, framed and glazed 101 x 78 cmThe image measures 87 cm high x 64 cm wide. In good overall condition with no obvious signs of foxing, tears, or damage to the image or frame. There is always the possibility of light bleaching to the image commensurate with age.

Signed in print along the lower left; the second line in the artist section has been left to allow the purchaser to paint the target themselves and sign their own name. Along the the catalog "Technics and Creativity" published by Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles, in conjunction with the Museum of Modern Art, New York, 1970-71. Contained in a white plastic case.(Print) height: 10 1/2 in x width: 8 1/2 in. (Case) height: 10 3/4 in x width: 9 in x depth: 1 1/4 in.br/>Condition:Light wears, scratches, and scuffs to the white case. Light wear including some discoloration and scratches to the cover of the book. All pages appear present. The paintbrush has come unattached to the sheet of the target print. The print is in otherwise good condition and is still firmly held within the case. A few small discolorations from the paint including a few small red spots near the red paint pot.

Frank Stella (American, b. 1936). Offset lithograph and screenprint titled "Polar Co-ordinates II" from the series "Polar Co-ordinates for Ronnie Peterson" depicting a circular shape on a curved grid, 1980. Pencil signed, dated, and numbered 40/100 along the lower right. Printed and published by Petersburg Press.The name of the series comes from the grid-like structure of the works in the series as well as the name of the Swedish motorsports race driver who died in September 1978 at the Grand Prix in Monza. Thomas Hart Benton (American, 1889-1975). Lithograph on paper titled "The Race" depicting a horse galloping in a race against a train on a wide open prairie, 1941. Pencil signed along the lower right. Benton was a key figure in the Regionalist art movement along with fellow artists Grant Wood and John Steuart Curry.Sight; height: 9 1/2 in x width: 13 1/2 in. Framed; height: 19 3/4 in x width: 22 1/4 in.Condition:Undulation and toning is visible across the sheet. It appears the piece was re-matted to a larger mat since toning halts as a hard-edged line near the interior edges of the present mat. Areas of foxing throughout, larger areas along the extreme edges that are not visible when framed. There are two repairs to the extreme edges, not visible when framed. Scattered foxing to the recto. When viewed under UV light there are areas that fluoresce around the perimeter of the image. The work is affixed to the mat with four paper corners. Some very light handling marks. There is water damage to the mat along the bottom edge. Framed under glass; some wear to the frame. The paper backing of the frame has been cut along three edges to allow for inspection of the print.
