This enormous lithograph is perhaps the most important of Freedman's later works. Produced as one of a series of 40 lithographs by well known artists for display in Lyons' teashops, The Window Box was printed under the direct supervision of the artist himself at Chromoworks of Willesden. Freedman was commissioned as Technical Advisor to supervise the production of the entire series - one of the most enterprising artistic projects of its time Barnett Freedman, along with Eric Ravilious and Edward Bawden, was one of the leading original lithographers of his generation. Trained under the expert guidance of T E Griffiths, Freedman became the leading specialist in original colour lithography and was one of its most successful commercial exponents in this country. His work in original lithography as an illustrator, cover designer and poster artist, from 1935 until his death, is virtually unrivalled
